GENERAL PURPOSE: The Chief of Staff serves as the principal aide and representative of the Associated Students (A.S.) President and Vice Presidents. The Chief of Staff is responsible for working with executive officers, managing two mentorship programs, implementing innovative ideas into A.S., leading any special projects of the Executive Officers, and providing assistance to the A.S. Executive Officers, as needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Primary Functions
Works as an advisor to and for the A.S. President and Vice Presidents
Leads special projects as assigned by the A.S. President and Vice Presidents
Helps direct all appointed committee designees for the A.S. Executive Officers, in partnership with the officers
Represents the A.S. Executive team through public speaking engagements and presentation.
Assists with tabling for new student orientation
Directs the A.S. First-Time Leadership Experience (FLEX) team and the First And Second Year/Transfer (FAST) Track Program which includes: organizing the interview process, assigning mentors, creating and executing meeting curriculum, and scheduling regular meetings under the supervision of the Government Affairs Assistant Director
Serves as a representative for the A.S. President or Vice Presidents, as assigned
Assists with strategy and execution of annual A.S. initiatives and events, as needed. Events and initiatives may include but are not limited to the following: A.S. Retreat, Aztec Achievement Awards, Career Advantage, Aztecs Rocks Hunger Campaign, A.S., Rock the Vote, Your Voice Matters, A.S. Elections, etc.
Assists in accomplishing annual A.S. goals and other duties as assigned by the A.S. President
Performs other duties, as assigned
Customer Service and Collaboration
Establishes and maintains positive working relationships with various A.S. staff and University departments. This role will work especially with the A.S. President and the A.S. Vice Presidents and all the A.S. leaders of the four A.S. councils
Safety
Ensures all operations are conducted with safety of staff and customers as first priority, and in accordance with the Injury and Illness Prevention Plan and other safety policies
Adheres to Associated Students' Code of Safe Practices
Reports accidents to supervisor and reviews changes required to avoid reoccurrence Ensures completion proper documentation is completed for each accident (employee and/or non-employee) and forwards to supervisor
Reports maintenance problems and/or broken and unsafe equipment to the appropriate party immediately

Minimum & Preferred Requirements
Education:
Students must be enrolled in at least half time units at SDSU (6 units undergraduate; 3 units graduate).
International students must have full-time enrollment at SDSU (12 units undergraduate; 6 units graduate).
Global Campus units do not meet the SDSU unit requirements.
Must be in good academic standing
Must be eligible to work in the United States
Experience:
Proficiency in Google Workspace (Google Calendar, Google Sheets, etc.)
Previous experience in student government preferred
Trainings:
Data Security & Privacy(must be completed within 30 days of hire)
Anti-Harassment training (must be completed within 30 days of hire)
Workplace Violence Prevention Plan Training (Must be completed within 30 days of hire)
Gender Awareness Training (Must be completed within 30 days of hire)

Ability to maintain a level of confidentiality and discretion as this position typically becomes privy to sensitive information.

Possesses a strong understanding of SDSU and A.S. resources, goals and values, and integrates them into leadership and collaborative efforts.
SCHEDULE & WORKING CONDITIONS
This is a part-time (10-15 hours/week during the academic year, varying hours during summer), with preferred hours to be worked during business hours of Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Occasionally, this position may require availability beyond regular business hours to support special projects or events. Please note that this is an onsite position.
