The Director, Medical Staff is responsible for the operational leadership, administrative oversight, and coordination of all medical staff functions within the assigned facility or facilities, including credentialing, privileging, peer review, and medical staff governance support. The incumbent is accountable for ensuring the accurate, efficient, and compliant administration of all medical staff processes in alignment with regulatory, accreditation, and organizational standards, including The Joint Commission, California Medical Staff Services Association, and applicable state and federal requirements. This role maintains responsibility for the development and implementation of medical staff policies and procedures, quality assurance and performance improvement initiatives, and ongoing evaluation of medical staff operations to ensure compliance and best practices within the assigned facility or facilities. The Director provides direct oversight to medical staff services coworkers across all assigned functional areas and is responsible for the selection, orientation, training, performance management, and professional development of all assigned coworkers. This position collaborates with the Chief Medical Officer, physician leadership, legal counsel, compliance, and administrative leadership to support medical staff governance, credentialing integrity, and organizational risk management. The Director reports to the VP, System Director, or Regional Director, exercising wide latitude of authority in managing facility-level medical staff operations and the execution of established departmental objectives with limited oversight.
What It Takes to be Successful
Required Qualifications:
Working knowledge of MS Office products
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Strong analytical and problem solving skills and the ability to plan strategically
Strong Knowledge of Joint Commission JCAHO, NCQA, and Title 22 regulations
Must possess the skill, knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties
Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job
Minimum of 5 years experience in credentialing medical staff
Minimum 5 years' experience of progressive management responsibility
Minimum of 1 year experience in an management leadership role
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
Demonstrated understanding of medical terminology
CPCS and/or CPMSM Certified
Ability to persuade or influence people to take appropriate action
Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the Health System
Ability to coordinate and resolve issues in a timely manner
Ability to apply sound judgment in ambiguous situations and effectively manage change
3-5 years of project management experience
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of University policies and procedures
Dual Certification in any of the following areas: CPMSM, CPCS, CPHQ
Bachelor's degree
