The Manager, Laboratory Services is responsible for the operational leadership, technical oversight, and daily supervision of assigned laboratory functions within their designated division or unit. The incumbent is accountable for all technical, administrative, and supervisory activities within the assigned area, ensuring laboratory services are performed accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with regulatory, accreditation, and health system standards. This role maintains responsibility for the planning, coordination, and evaluation of laboratory operations within the assigned division, including units of a highly specialized or technically complex nature, as well as departments with multi-shift operations. This position collaborates with clinical, administrative, and operational leadership to support quality improvement initiatives, workforce development, and the achievement of departmental performance goals. The Manager works under the direction of senior laboratory leadership, receiving periodic guidance and feedback while exercising independent judgment in managing day-to-day departmental operations, staffing, and the execution of established laboratory objectives.
What It Takes to be Successful
Required Qualifications:
Qualification as a technical supervisor under CLIA (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act)
Must possess the skill, knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties
Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job
Must be willing to testify in court regarding testing activities if subpoenaed
One year of management experience within a complex healthcare setting.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
Current CA License or Certification
CA Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) or Certification in Anatomic Pathology
Bachelor's degree in a science or healthcare related field
Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's Degree in a related field
Management experience in an academic/laboratory setting.
Knowledge of University and Medical Center organizations, policies, procedures and forms
Licenses and Certifications:
CA Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) or Certification in Anatomic Pathology.
