Associate Director of Sports, Recreation and Wellness, Student Affairs
The Associate Director of Sports, Recreation and Wellness provides leadership and strategic direction for the Sports and Recreation programs in support of the department's overall contribution to student success, and wellness through an emphasis on their recreation, sports activities, and overall fitness to support an enlivened student experience. The Associate Director of Sports, Recreation and Wellness specifically oversees sports and recreation programming and supervises the Assistant Director of Sports and Recreation Programs. This position reports to the Director of Sports, Recreation and Wellness. The Associate Director of Sports and Recreation supports the Director in the operation of a robust sports, recreation and wellness program.
Work Location: Doheny Campus (Downtown Los Angeles) and Chalon Campus (West Los Angeles). Hybrid work schedule available.
Hiring salary can be above the posted pay range if candidate's qualifications are determined to be above the minimum requirements of the position description.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide general support to the Director of Sports, Recreation and Wellness in the operation of the total program of the department.
Develop and implement components of the department's strategic plan, relative to sports and recreation, in alignment with departmental mission, vision and strategic initiatives.
Directly supervise the Assistant Director of Sports and Recreation Programs
Oversee student employment programs, ensuring effective training and development.
Responsible for budgeting and resource allocation in the areas of sports and recreation to inform the overall departmental goals.
Implement learning outcomes assessment and program evaluation to inform program development and ensure quality assurance. Coordinate annual assessment efforts, including data collection and reporting in alignment with the Division of Student Affairs and University goals.
Ensure effective scheduling and utilization of facilities and equipment for all sports and recreational activities, maintaining a safe environment.
Act on behalf of the Director when assigned.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:
Contributes to the SRW Departmental and the Division of Student Affairs strategic initiatives, program evaluation, and learning outcome assessment.
Supports the university strategic initiatives and student recruitment, retention, and success.
Participates in various university committees and task forces as requested.
Represent the department on campus-wide committees and participate in university events to promote engagement and community well-being.
Support departmental fundraising, external funding, and community outreach efforts to enhance programming and facilities.
Perform other job-related duties, as assigned.
Job Requirements: Knowledge
General knowledge of higher education administration and student development theory along with sound understanding of the concepts of recreation and sport sciences, as well as staff and student development.
Sufficient working knowledge of anatomy, physiology and fitness principles and women's advocacy necessary for implementing a complete fitness program.
Basic working knowledge of computer/software applications.
Knowledge of special event planning and implementation in a variety of activities and environments desired.
Knowledge of necessary maintenance needs for operating safe and inclusive recreation facilities.
Knowledge of group dynamics and motivation techniques desired.
Basic knowledge of photography and web page design preferred.
Abilities and Skills
Effectively organize, prioritize and handle multiple tasks to meet departmental goals.
Effectively incorporate events and programs into a comprehensive wellness program.
Ability to supervise fitness and movement offerings.
Efficiently and effectively manage a multi-faceted facility and program maintaining exemplary levels of customer service throughout all programs and services.
Ability to foster and promote an integrated team approach to student programming and successfully assess programming impact on learning outcomes.
A commitment to outstanding student service and teamwork are essential.
Strong supervisory skills and excellent fiscal, oral and written communication, organizational, prioritization, administrative, teaching, and interpersonal skills.
Education
Master's degree in recreation, physical education, sports management, exercise science, or related field from an accredited college/university required.
Experience
Three or more years' experience in student programming in areas of fitness, wellness, and recreation - preferably in higher education.
Experience with operating sports and recreation facilities.
Licenses and Certifications
Current First-aid/AED and CPR certification required.
Fitness Instructor certification from ACSM, ACE, AFAA,NASM or comparable organization required.
