Full Time - Lead Residence Hall Director
The Blinn College District is searching for a Full Time - Lead Residence Hall Director at our Brenham Campus.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities are listed below:
Job Summary
Oversee and maintain housing facilities operations for the College-owned residence halls and apartments. Responsible for creating and maintaining a healthy living-learning environment and for assuring the quality of life and providing administrative leadership to assigned residence hall(s). Serves as a leader and role model in student staff supervision, administration, interpersonal communication, management, and program development in a supportive environment focusing on student development and retention. Promotes department recruiting and retention goals through facilities management.
Principal Accountabilities
- Oversee the daily operations of assigned residence hall(s). Performs the administrative duties for the assigned residence hall(s) include compiling reports, damage billing, key management and inventory, building occupancy, building inspection, room changes, room assignments, and administering the room consolidation process as needed. Provides the leadership and oversight for the opening and closing of the residence halls.
- Responsibilities include program development, working office hours and performing weekly and weekend duty on a rotating basis.
- Participate in the selection, training, supervision, and evaluation of Resident Assistants.
- Conduct regular walk-throughs and inspection of residential facilities to identify service needs (facility repairs, cleaning, etc.)
- Collaborate with Director of Housing and the Facilities department to coordinate projects related to repairs and upgrades of residential facilities.
- Monitor maintenance and custodial work order requests and collaborate with Maintenance department to ensure prompt resolution of maintenance issues. Identify trends and issues that require follow-up.
- Assist Director of Housing with planning and coordination of semester and holiday opening/closing of residential facilities, and responding to student and parent facilities concerns.
- Collaborate with Facilities Department to create and maintain a furniture replacement schedule.Assist Director of Housing with inventory management processes.
- Coordinate with Residence Hall Directors to conduct regular key audits including taking inventory and maintaining records. Responsible for key activation and de-activation in key management software when opening and closing residence halls.
- Assist Residence Hall Directors with room audits (vacancy reports, check-in audits, etc.)
- Coordinate with Residence Hall Directors to confirm damage billing and verify accurate entries in housing management software.
- Collaborate with Director of Housing on departmental committee training and oversight.
- Act as a collaborator for the Blinn College Housing Department regarding internal and external constituents to effect positive communication with all constituents.
- Performs other related tasks as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications/ Required Degree, License or Certifications
- This is a live-in position, must reside in the apartment provided in order to respond to the needs of the department 24 hours per day.
- Must be a current Blinn College employee
- Bachelor's degree
- 2-4 years of college student services experience and/or training in housing programs.
- Experience with facilities management in residential housing.
- Ability to respond to after hours facilities emergencies in the absence of Director of Housing.
Minimum Competencies
- Knowledge of, or the ability to learn, department and college policies and procedures.
- The ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment in making decisions.
- Ability to establish and maintain a good working relationship with college faculty and staff, students, and the general public.
- Knowledge of student development theory and techniques that support the success of diverse student populations or has successful work experience in these related areas.
- Ability to provide support for student development and concern for students in crisis, at risk and in general.
- Ability to engage students and to create and enhance their connection to the college and their peers.
- Skilled in the use of standard office equipment, Microsoft Office Suite applications, and the ability to learn the Housing and Residence Life management software (The Housing Director and Conduct Coordinator).
- Ability to react quickly, act calmly, and effectively manage crisis and emergency situations. The ability to diffuse and respond effectively to situations involving intense pressure and/or unpredictable behavior or individuals.
- Ability to train, supervise, and motivate staff and students in leadership, organizational skills, communication skills, etc., including the ability to speak effectively to both small and large groups.
- Ability to provide basic personal support, mediation, and conflict-resolution.
- Physical ability to climb stairs in order to reach top floor of residence halls in an emergency, in response to on call notification, or other related reasons without assistance.
- Ability to observe and detect unusual occurrences and policy violations.
- Ability to work extended hours during peak times during the year (opening and closing of the residence halls, staff training, crisis situations, inclement weather, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with housing management software.
- Experience of implementation of housing programs and services.
- Experience working in housing and residence life.
