Academic Administrator (Levels 1-4) Associate Director of Research / Research Program Lead Computational Orthopaedics & Surgical Innovation (COSI Lab) Department of Orthopaedic Surgery University of California, San Francisco
The UCSF Department of Orthopaedic Surgery is recruiting an Academic Administrator (Levels 1-4) to serve as Associate Director of Research / Research Program Lead for the Computational Orthopaedics & Surgical Innovation (COSI) Lab led by Professor Stefano A. Bini, MD.
The successful candidate will provide scientific, operational, and programmatic leadership for a highly collaborative and largely virtual research program led by Professor Bini. This individual will be responsible for orchestrating lab infrastructure, supervising student researchers, and ensuring that research projects progress efficiently from concept to publication. Clinical duties are not associated with this role.
The selected individual will play an integral role in advancing the Department's research mission through the COSI lab.
This is not a traditional bench-based postdoctoral position. The emphasis of the role is research program leadership, supervision, digital infrastructure development, and workflow optimization. The Principal Investigator will retain the PI role on grants; the selected candidate may contribute to grant development and may serve as first author on manuscripts as appropriate.
This appointment is designed to provide strategic oversight and coordination of the COSI Lab's research portfolio.
Ideal candidates will demonstrate strong organizational skills, technological fluency, experience managing multiple concurrent research projects, and a proven ability to independently lead research initiatives and teams in decentralized or virtual environments.
Requirements to be met at the time of hire:
PhD, MD, or equivalent terminal degree in biomedical engineering, bioengineering, computer science, data science, biostatistics, epidemiology, health services research, quantitative public health, orthopaedic research, musculoskeletal research, or a closely related quantitative biomedical field
Demonstrated 'self-starter' and 'independent project management' skills
Demonstrated experience managing complex research programs or multi-project environments
Experience supervising students, trainees, or junior researchers
Experience managing scientific manuscripts and/or grants through the full publication lifecycle
Strong technological proficiency and ability to adopt emerging research tools and platforms
Demonstrated ability to track budgets and manage research-related expenditures
Applicants' materials must list current and/or pending qualifications upon submission.
See Table 34 for the salary range for this position. A reasonable estimate for this position is $66,728 - $129,328.
Curriculum Vitae - CV must clearly list current and/or pending qualifications (e.g. board eligibility/certification, medical licensure, etc.).
