Position Summary
Baylor Scott & White Health is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Colorectal Surgery Nurse Practitioner to join our growing Colon & Rectal Surgery team at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Texas.
The Nurse Practitioner (NP) is a licensed, certified advanced practice provider who delivers comprehensive, evidence-based specialty care to patients within the colorectal surgery service line. The NP functions collaboratively with supervising physicians and multidisciplinary team members to provide high-quality patient-centered care across clinic and procedural settings.
This role includes assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, patient education, care coordination, and management of patients with colorectal surgical conditions.
Essential Responsibilities
Perform comprehensive and problem-focused patient evaluations, including medical histories and physical examinations.
Order, interpret, and evaluate laboratory, imaging, and diagnostic studies.
Develop and implement individualized treatment plans utilizing evidence-based clinical practices.
Prescribe medications and therapeutic interventions in accordance with state regulations and organizational protocols.
Provide pre-operative and post-operative management for colorectal surgery patients.
Perform procedures within scope of practice and delegated privileges.
Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, medications, nutrition, and preventive care.
Collaborate closely with colorectal surgeons, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary care teams to optimize patient outcomes.
Maintain accurate and timely medical documentation within the electronic medical record.
Coordinate referrals and specialty consultations as appropriate.
Participate in inpatient rounding, clinic coverage, and additional patient care responsibilities as needed to support departmental operations.
Qualifications
Education
Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
Experience
Previous colorectal surgery, surgical specialty, gastroenterology, or related clinical experience preferred.
New graduates with strong clinical training may be considered.
Licensure & Certifications
Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Texas or compact RN license.
Current Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) license in Texas.
Current certification as a Nurse Practitioner (NP) through an accredited certifying body appropriate to patient population.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 30 days of hire or transfer.
