Summary

The Charge Nurse directly supervises staff and is a clinical expert practitioner specific to the unit and/or initiative. This position includes both direct and indirect patient care in combination with education/staff development functions as well as designated leadership functions to promote high-quality and cost-effective healthcare.

Essential Functions

• Serves as a clinical and operational leader, providing expert behavioral health nursing care and acting as a resource for staff.
• Coordinates and prioritizes patient care across the continuum, managing complex clinical situations with a holistic, patient- and family-centered approach.
• Oversees daily unit operations, including staffing, assignments, patient flow, and interdisciplinary communication.
• Supports staff development through coaching, education, precepting, and performance feedback.
• Collaborates with leadership and care teams to drive quality improvement, evidence-based practice, and regulatory compliance.
• Promotes a safe, therapeutic environment while ensuring adherence to organizational standards, policies, and required education.

Qualifications

Required:

• Current or Temporary State of Nevada licensure as Registered Nurse at start of hire.
• American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare providers.
• Within six (6) months of hire, completes the Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training Course.

Preferred:

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing
• Certification:
• Psychiatric-Mental Health Registered Nurse (PMHN)
• Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing Certification (PMH-BC)
• Certified Medical Surgical Registered Nurse (CMS-RN)
• Experience in Behavioral Health Facility
