Full Time - Residence Hall Director
The Blinn College District is searching for a Full Time - Residence Hall Director at our Brenham Campus.

Job Summary
Residence Hall Directors (RHD) are responsible for creating and maintaining a healthy living-learning environment and for assuring the quality of life and providing administrative leadership to assigned residence hall(s). Utilizing core competencies and best practices they help to create a positive student experience through engagement and community development. They serve as leaders and role models in student staff supervision, administration, interpersonal communication, management, and program development in a supportive environment focusing on student development and retention
Principal Accountabilities
1. Oversees the daily operations of assigned residence hall(s). Performs the administrative duties for the assigned residence hall(s) include compiling reports, damage billing, key management and inventory, building occupancy, building inspection, room changes, room assignments, and administering the room consolidation process as needed. Provides the leadership and oversight for the opening and closing of the residence halls.
2. Responsibilities include program development, working office hours (in hall and central office) and performing weekly and weekend duty on a rotating basis.
3. Projects a high degree of visibility, student engagement, and availability to all students. Provides the leadership to promote and develop community within the residence halls and Residence Life. Creates and maintains an effective living-learning environment that is conducive to academic success, mutual respect, personal growth, and the valuing of multiculturalism and inclusion.
4. Participates in the selection, training, supervision, and evaluation of Resident Assistants. RHDs are a member of staff selection/recruitment or training committees. Engages Resident Assistants in 1: 1 meetings, and provides staff development opportunities.
5. Provides resources and support to students expressing concerns. Provides referral to the appropriate college office, answers questions, and interprets institutional, departmental, and board policies, procedures, and processes. Acts as a liaison for the College with students, parents, and various campus partners that are involved with the operation of the residence halls.
6. Implement and manage the student development based programming in the residence halls and at the departmental level. Manages assigned programming budget and follows institutional policies for purchasing.
7. Administers the student conduct process for students residing in the residence halls. Enforces the student code of conduct, departmental, institutional, and board policies. Works with campus partners to address safety and security issues on campus and within the residence halls.
8. Participates in continuing education, professional, and personal development opportunities. Attends and participates in institutional scheduled trainings and meetings. During the summer months RHD staff will be assigned to different responsibilities or areas within the department or institution based on departmental and institutional needs.
9. Monitors custodial and maintenance functions within the residence halls; follows up on maintenance and custodial requests. Uses the departmental housing software to enter, monitor, and track maintenance and custodial requests.
10. Performs the duties in one of the following collateral areas when assigned smaller residence halls: student support services, housing operations, student conduct, and leadership and program development.
11. Serve as co-residence hall director for larger residence halls, as assigned.
12. Performs other related duties and tasks as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications/ Required Degree, License or Certifications
1. Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university.
2. Previous experience working in Housing and Residence Life at a professional or paraprofessional level.
3. This is a live-in position, must reside in the residence hall assigned to your supervision in order to respond to the needs of the department 24 hours per day.
4. Must reside in apartment provided in a residence hall.
5. The individual must possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities, and be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Minimum Competencies
1. Knowledge of, or the ability to learn, department and college policies and procedures.
2. The ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
3. Ability to exercise sound judgment in making decisions.
4. Ability to establish and maintain a good working relationship with college faculty and staff, students, and the general public.
5. Knowledge of student development theory and techniques that support the success of diverse student populations or has successful work experience in these related areas.
6. Ability to provide support for student development and concern for students in crisis, at risk and in general.
7. Ability to engage students and to create and enhance their connection to the college and their peers.
8. Skilled in the use of standard office equipment, Microsoft Office Suite applications, and the ability to learn the Housing and Residence Life management software {The Housing Director and Conduct Coordinator).
9. Ability to react quickly, act calmly, and effectively manage crisis and emergency situations. The ability to diffuse and respond effectively to situations involving intense pressure and/or unpredictable behavior or individuals.
10. Ability to train, supervise, and motivate staff and students in leadership, organizational skills, communication skills, etc., including the ability to speak effectively to both small and large groups. Ability to provide basic personal support, mediation, and conflict-resolution.
11. Physical ability to climb stairs in order to reach top floor of residence halls in an emergency, in response to on call notification, or other related reasons without assistance. The ability to observe and detect unusual occurrences and policy violations.
12. Ability to work extended hours during peak times during the year (opening and closing of the residence halls, staff training, crisis situations, inclement weather, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications
1. Master's degree in Student Personnel, Education or related field from an accredited college or university is strongly preferred.
2. 1-2 years of professional or graduate Residence Life experience is preferred. Related administrative and counseling experience will be considered.

This is a 12 month, benefits eligible position. Blinn College pays 100% of health insurance for full time employees, 50% for dependents, and two times your annual salary in life insurance benefits. Leave time includes 96 hours vacation, 40 hours discretionary and 16 hours personal each year and 8 hours sick each month. Paid leave for college designated holiday's, spring break, thanksgiving and Christmas break (approx. 25 days per year)
