The Lead Pharmacist in the inpatient pharmacy setting is responsible for leading inpatient pharmacy operations to support safe, efficient, and effective medication management. The Lead will be knowledgeable of all applicable pharmacy regulations, including but not limited to CA Board of Pharmacy, The Joint Commission, DEA, CDPH, CMS, and USP 795, 797, and 800 standards. This role will assist with planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of daily operations of the inpatient pharmacy. The incumbent will ensure efficient operations and is responsible for the implementation and daily management of cost control measures, drug utilization improvement and patient outcomes. The Lead will work to enhance integration of acute care services to improve departmental efficiency and optimize drug delivery systems to ensure accuracy, timeliness, safety, quality, and excellence in customer service. This role is responsible for drug inventory management, tracking, and coordination to ensure compliance with the Drug Supply Chain Security Act (DSCSA), State, and Federal Laws. The Lead Pharmacist is expected to actively participate in pharmacy education programs and shall provide training and oversight for pharmacists, pharmacy residents, technicians, interns, and administrative personnel who are engaged in pharmacy services and provide feedback for employee evaluations and actions. The Lead Pharmacist may serve as a liaison with leaders of other departments and may participate on organizational committees. This position is a Direct Patient Care Provider as defined in Pharmacy Policy.
What It Takes to be Successful
Required Qualifications:
Must demonstrate excellent customer service and teamwork skills
Minimum four years of clinical experience as a licensed pharmacist, or two year's experience & completion of a Pharmacy Residency
Graduation from an accredited School of Pharmacy with a Doctor of Pharmacy degree
Excellent planning, organization and time management skills
Demonstrated experience providing oversight, training, and development for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians
Demonstrated experience monitoring quality and efficiency utilizing metrics
Demonstrated experience developing efficient workflows, programs, policies and standard operating procedures
Demonstrate clear, concise verbal and written communication skills
Current BLS or ACLS certification
CA Board of Pharmacy Registered Pharmacist licensure in good standing
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the Health System
Preferred Qualifications:
Significant experience (more than 2 years) developing and implementing drug utilization programs for both inpatient and outpatient populations
Knowledge of USP 795, USP 797, USP 800
Knowledge and use of EPIC electronic health record
Effective presentation skills
