Job Summary

This is not a direct patient care position and not a phlebotomy position.  Here is a brief description of what the job entails:

1. Check quality of slides as they come off the HE600 stainers for any staining issues, missing specimen on the slide, uncoverslipped, etc. 
2. QC slides in beaker and assign to pathologists base on service they are on (i.e. Gyn, Breast, GI, GU or unassigned).
3. Deliver cases in Epic Beaker and sort according to send out to pathologists off-site, for delivery to pathologists cubbies at West Campus or for delivery to scanning room for scanning.
4. Look at and respond to all emails or teams chats as fast and efficiently as possible.
5. Pull requests for slides and blocks from all of our path systems and complete the orders when fulfilled.
6. Digital Pathology - clean and QC all slides before going on the scanners, assign cases to pathologist that are unassigned after scanning, package and send out per pathologists preference as well as look for all rescan orders in our system and complete the orders when fulfilled.
7. Troubleshoot and maintain the HE600 stainers as well as the digital pathology scanners.
8. Inventory of reagents for the HE600.
9. File slides as tasked on that rotation

Shift:  Tuesday-Saturday 10:00 AM-6:30 PM.. 

The Lab Tech 1 performs routine lab duties using established protocols and procedures under supervision. Specific duties may vary by assigned area.

Essential Functions of the Role

• Conducts routine laboratory procedures where the range of possible errors is limited.
• Sorts, labels and records patient specimens. Set up specimen, material and equipment in preparation for Medical Technologist to perform test.
• Operates centrifuge, simplex timers, cell washer and other Laboratory equipment in completing assigned duties.
• Maintains appropriate inventory of supplies.
• Maintains effective communication and working relationships with all laboratory personnel, other disciplines, and external customers.
• Participates in laboratory projects and educational activities.

• EDUCATION - H.S. Diploma/GED Equivalent
• EXPERIENCE - Less than 1 Year of Experience
