ABOUT THE WILLOWS: The Willows Community School, located in Culver City is a Developmental Kindergarten through 8th grade non-profit, co-educational independent school enrolling 475 students annually. POSITION DESCRIPTION: Under general supervision, the Facilities Technician plays a vital role in supporting the operations and community life of our DK–8 school. This position ensures the campus is clean, safe, and prepared for school activities and events by performing a wide range of custodial, maintenance, and repair tasks. Responsibilities include routine preventative maintenance and minor repairs across campus—as well as general cleaning and event setup and breakdown. This role helps create a welcoming and well-maintained environment for students, families, faculty, and guests.
REPORTS TO: Facilities and Operations Manager
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Event & School Support
Set up and break down classrooms, meeting rooms, and outdoor spaces for school events such as parent meetings, performances, and community gatherings.
Arrange furniture, A/V equipment, signage, and other materials as needed.
Provide on-site logistical support during events and assist with troubleshooting as necessary.
Clean and reset event spaces after use.
Deliver packages, supplies, and equipment to classrooms and administrative areas.
Move classroom, office, and event furniture, computer equipment, tools, and other items as needed.
Maintenance & Repairs
Conduct routine, periodic, and special inspections to identify facility maintenance needs or safety concerns.
Complete minor electrical repairs, including replacing light bulbs, ballasts, outlets, cords, fuses, and switches.
Perform basic plumbing tasks such as unclogging drains and repairing leaks in sinks and faucets.
Carry out light carpentry work, including tightening handles and hinges, assembling furniture, hanging doors, building event props, and fitting locks.
Patch walls, perform touch-up painting, and maintain general building finishes.
Assemble furniture, cabinetry, and instructional equipment.
Ensure that emergency exits, lighting, and signage are operational.
Custodial Duties
Clean and maintain restrooms, classrooms, yard, stairways, and common areas.
Sweep, mop, vacuum, empty trash, and restock supplies in designated areas.
Ensure outdoor walkways and gathering areas are safe, clean, and accessible.
Collaboration & Communication
Work closely with school staff to execute room setups and schedule tasks.
Maintain accurate records of maintenance requests, completed tasks, and inspections.
Represent the school in a professional and welcoming manner when interacting with faculty, staff, families, and vendors.
Report any urgent issues or safety hazards to the appropriate administrator.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be able to work a flexible schedule to support school events.
High school diploma or equivalent required.
3-5 Years of facilities experience, preferably in a school setting.
Experience in school facilities, maintenance, janitorial work, or event support strongly preferred.
Basic knowledge of general maintenance tasks (e.g., plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting) is helpful.
Ability to safely use hand tools and maintenance equipment.
Strong communication and time management skills.
Commitment to a clean, safe, and supportive campus environment.
Must pass background check and health clearance required for working in a school setting.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
Work is performed indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions, including heat, cold, and rain.
Must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull objects weighing up to 50 pounds independently and heavier loads with assistance.
Exposure to dust, cleaning agents, paint, and other chemicals is common; appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is provided and required when necessary.
Must be able to work around children and in active school environments that may be noisy or crowded at times.
The role requires regular standing, walking, bending, stooping, climbing ladders, kneeling, reaching, and crouching.
This full-time, non-exempt (hourly), position offers an hourly range of $21/hr.–$23/hr., commensurate with experience.
This role follows a consistent schedule, with occasional adjustments for special events. Regular shift: Sunday 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM; Monday - Thursday 1:00PM - 9:30 PM
Evening and weekend availability required for special events.
