The Opportunity:

As a Laboratory Technician 1 within Washington State University, College of Veterinary Medicine Washington Animal Disease Diagnotistic Laboratory (WADDL) you will contribute directly to laboratory operations by processing biological samples and preparing microbiological assays to detect pathogenic bacteria. You will also set up fecal flotation samples to identify avian parasites and ensure accurate test ordering, data entry, and results reporting within the laboratory information management system (LIMS). As part of your daily work, you will support safe and efficient lab operations by performing routine maintenance tasks such as autoclaving biohazardous waste, restocking supplies, preparing reagents and media, and carrying out general preventative maintenance on laboratory equipment. You are expected to be eligible for work in a BSL-2 laboratory and to understand and consistently follow BSL-2 safety guidelines while working in a regulated laboratory environment.

Additional Information:

This is a full time (100% FTE), permanent position. This position is overtime eligible.

Monthly Salary: $3,925 to $5,271 | Range 44 | Successful candidates are typically hired at the beginning of the salary range and receive scheduled salary increment increases in accordance with WAC 357-28.

In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.

Required Qualifications:

• Completion of an approved course by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists for laboratory assistants OR two years of chemical, or clinical or public health laboratory experience. Training in medical technology or education in college with courses in laboratory sciences may be substituted, year for year, for experience.
  
• Ability to work overtime and rotate on holidays, if necessary.

Preferred Qualifications:

• One or more years of microbiology lab experience
  
• Familiarity with veterinary medicine
  
• Experience with medical or laboratory database
  
• Experience in sterile technique and handling biological specimens
