Ophthalmologist Role Overview:
As an Ophthalmologist at the Fresno VA, you will provide comprehensive eye care—diagnosing, treating, and managing a wide range of ophthalmic conditions for veteran patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings. You’ll perform surgical procedures, outpatient consultations, and collaborate across specialties, contributing meaningfully to the health and wellness of our local veteran community.
Key Responsibilities:
Deliver medical and surgical eye care to veterans, including cataract, glaucoma, and other ophthalmic procedures.
Provide inpatient and outpatient consultations and referrals as needed.
Interpret diagnostic tests, imaging, and manage acute and chronic ocular diseases.
Participate in multidisciplinary case discussions and collaborate closely with other specialties.
Supervise, teach, and mentor residents, fellows, and medical students.
Contribute to continuous quality improvement initiatives and adhere to established best practices.
Maintain precise and timely medical documentation in accordance with VA policies.

The Veterans Health Administration (VHA) is the largest integrated health care system in the United States, providing care at 1,321 health care facilities, including 172 VA Medical Centers and 1,138 outpatient sites of care of varying complexity (VHA outpatient clinics) to over 9 million Veterans enrolled in the VA health care program.
