About the job: Heron School is a private, secondary school located in Moab, Utah serving exceptional 7th-12th graders. Heron School supports all learning profiles and specializes in working with both academically accelerated and neurodivergent learners including students labeled as twice-exceptional or “2e” (gifted with a learning ability). We are capping enrollment for the 2026-2027 school year at 18 full time students.
Heron School is currently seeking a to hire a dynamic full-time Science & Math teacher:
In-person class is held Monday - Thursday, 9am - 3pm
Fridays are open days for staff prep and meetings as necessary
This position is 40 hours per week
Provide direct instruction for 4 courses each quarter (3 10-week quarters and one 2-week quarter in June) as well as connect students with local mentors and online learning opportunities that build on the students’ strengths and interests
Instructor should have a depth of understanding in one or more STEM fields and the ability to broadly teach/mentor all other secondary level STEM courses
Preference given to candidates with experience working with students that are above grade level learners and/or have a learning disability (ADHD, ASD, dyslexia)
Housing may be included as part of the compensation for this position for applicants looking to relocate to Moab
Teaching certificate is not required

About the school: Heron School seeks to combine the characteristics of Hogwarts, Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters, and summer camp. Heron School offers individualized, project-based curriculum developed around students' strengths and interests and driven by instructional scaffolding. Heron School connects students with college-level coursework opportunities and guides students to be ready for independent living. Heron School students struggle in the public school system setting socially, emotionally, and academically due to their unique gifts and neurodiversity, which is why Heron School connects students with one-on-one instruction, a smaller class size, project-based curriculum, and an educational setting with minimal external stimulation.
