Opportunity Statement:
Reporting directly to the Head of School and serving as a member of the Administrative Leadership Team, the Director of Academics teaches up to two courses or serves as IB Coordinator (depending on the needs of the School) while working with the Academic Team (AAC, Department Heads) to provide vision and direction for the 9th - 12th academic program.
Focusing on the implementation of policies and procedures, the revision of curriculum, and ensuring that the needs of students are met to their fullest potential, the Director of Academics supports the continued development of an academically rigorous and mission-aligned experience for all.
Essential Responsibilities:
Provides comprehensive oversight of the academic program: coaches and evaluates faculty, facilitates course development and course development, leads re-accreditation process and ensures program compliance with external organizations
Collaborates with Admissions office to meet prospective students and families, review transcripts, and review applications for alignment with academic program
Updates, communicates, and maintains policies and handbooks and writes content for weekly newsletter for staff and bi-weekly newsletter for families
Designs professional learning experiences such as academic faculty meetings, new teacher mentoring, inservice workshops and orientation
Designs master schedule and manages course registration processes with Academic Coordinator
Oversees grade reporting: communication, review and release of grade reports
Communicates essential academic program details to faculty, students, parents, admin team and BOT
Direct reports: Teaching Faculty, Academic Support Faculty, Academic Coordinator, Registrar, Director of College Counseling
Verde Valley School is a residential community. On-campus housing and meals at the dining hall are provided. Candidates must be willing to wholeheartedly engage in all facets of boarding school life including advising, weekend and weeknight duty, and dorm supervision.
Preference is given to candidates who have:
10+ years of experience as a classroom teacher
Demonstrated experience leading a team of adults
Prior administrative leadership experience
