As the manager of the Sprocket laboratory, the incumbent will oversee the daily analytical operations of the facility and supervise the activities of two Analysts (SRA III and SRA IV). In addition, the incumbent will provide analytical expertise in the identification of pest control needs not covered by existing registrations and arrange for the method development and subsequent sample analysis to support such registrations including the funding of short-term research projects.
The Sprocket manager will contribute to the leadership of the Western Region (IR-4) laboratory, support the coordination of the associated research projects and report directly to the Regional Director.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position
Current Driver's License (Use of personal or campus vehicle).
Master's degree in a field of science such as chemistry, agricultural and/or environmental chemistry, or toxicology.
3-5 year of experience in analytical chemistry, agricultural or environmental chemistry, toxicology, food science or other related areas (post degree completion).
Demonstrated training in Good Laboratory Practice Standards (40 CFR Part 160) and safety requirements provided for in OSHA regulations.
Experience with EPA neutral scheme audits for GLP facilities.
Ability to analyze pesticides and related chemicals routinely and understand the procedures used in order to facilitate expedient changes between projects.
Skills to develop or modify analytical methods used for analysis of pesticides and related chemicals extracted from foods, fibers, animal tissues, and other environmental samples.
Knowledge required for the analysis of organic compounds, including the skills in the operation and maintenance of GC and LC equipment, as well as the interpretation of data from those instruments.
Preferred Qualifications
Doctoral degree in a field of science such as chemistry, agricultural and/or environmental chemistry, or toxicology.
5+ years' experience working in an analytical laboratory which operates under Good Laboratory Practice Standards.
Significant experience in analytical chemistry, agricultural or environmental chemistry, toxicology, food science or other related areas.
Experience with EPA neutral scheme audits for GLP facilities.
Experience with Agilent GC-MS/MS, LC-MS/MS, and LC-QTOF instrumentation using Agilent MassHunter software.
Knowledge of the many analytical techniques used to obtain homogeneous samples, and extraction techniques used to remove pesticides and related chemicals of interest from these samples.
Knowledge of the physical and chemical properties of pesticides and related chemicals so that the most useful cleanup can be applied to remove interfering crop compounds and materials.
Possess personal characteristics which allow for relating easily with a wide variety of personalities while assisting, instructing or simply interacting.
Actively tries to create a positive work environment.
Communication skills, written and oral, for clear and accurate reporting of experimental results.

Department Overview
The Interregional Research Project No.4 (IR-4 Project) was established in 1963 by Directors of the State Agricultural Experiment Stations, located at Land Grant Universities throughout the United States, to obtain residue tolerances for minor use pesticides on food and feed crops. Since 1974, The Western Region Headquarters of the IR-4 program, which serves 14 states, has been housed in the Environmental Toxicology Department. The IR-4 Western Region Laboratory researches and analyzes pesticide residues projects from all regions, including re-registration projects.
The purpose of the position is to manage the IR-4 laboratory operation in Sprocket Building and serve as an analyst operating under guideline set out in the Federal Register 40 CFR Part 160, Good Laboratory Practices, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Residue Chemistry Test Guidelines (OPPTS 860) and laboratory Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Work Environment
UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014.
