The Public Information and Communication Officer reports directly to the Superintendent or designee. Plans, organizes, coordinates, and oversees a comprehensive communications program for internal and external audiences, encompassing website design, media relations, publications, outreach and the coordination and management of Public Records Act requests. The Public Information and Communication Officer serves as the conduit for district communication for all stakeholders. Provides professional and technical communications support, assistance, and guidance to District administrators and staff; coordinates outreach, social media, special events, services, programs, and other assigned District-related activities.
Essential Functions:
Organize and manage all communication and public relations as directed by the District.
Serves as the District’s point of contact for Public Records Act requests, coordinating timely and compliant responses.
Strategize a public relations campaign for all directed activities to increase communication and awareness for the District.
Plan, develop, and advise site and District administrators, personnel, and staff on District programs and initiatives, ensuring effective communication with a variety of audiences.
Work with and on behalf of the Superintendent, or designee, to provide information to all levels of media, such as broadcasting, social media, recording, etc…
Recommend and organize press conferences, public events, and district activities for the Superintendent.
Develop and prepare all correspondence to public media that may include press releases, executive summaries, reports, highlight articles, and related materials.
Outreach to establish effective working relationships with all media personnel to maintain a positive public relations for the District.
Provide important communication to the public that pertain to all District policies and administrative procedures.
Plan and coordinate community and business outreach efforts in alignment with District priorities, as directed.
Provide staff development and presentations to District employees, School Board of Education, students, parent groups, and others.
Attend Board meetings and prepare summaries of Board actions and key highlights.
Oversees the design, management, and maintenance of the District website to ensure timely, accurate, and engaging communication of District programs and activities.
Coordinate social media and video teams to plan, create, and deliver timely, high-quality content on a consistent basis.
Serves as a designee of the Superintendent on the Facilities Advisory and CBOC committees, representing the Superintendent’s interests and perspectives.
May supervise staff as assigned.
Performs related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in communications, English, public relations, journalism, or a related field. Additional qualifying experience may substitute for two years of the required education on a year for year basis.
Master’s Degree
Valid California Teacher Credential
Valid California Administrative Services Credential- preferred
Desired Qualifications: Four years of work experience in media and public relations positions. Upper level college course in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing and/or Journalism may be substituted for one year of work experience.
