Minimum Qualifications

Carpenter Lead has all of the qualifications described in the Maintenance Carpenter specification plus the following qualifications:

• Must be skilled in coordinating with other trades and be able to solve task-related problems.

• Must have the ability to affect good working relationships with other employees.

• Must be able to follow written and/or oral instructions and communicate those instructions to others.

• Must also be knowledgeable of applicable EH&S and OSHA rules, regulations and requirements.

• Must demonstrate strong communication skills (both verbal and written) and be comfortable with Excel and Google sheets for project estimation and tracking, and handheld applications as well.

Minimum Education and Experience Required

Must have sufficient experience to qualify as a journey level carpenter, with approximately four years of actual work at the trade. This may include time spent in apprenticeship or in vocational training or a combination of equivalent education and work experience. Work in the construction or modification of technical laboratory environments is highly valued. Experience with online ordering systems such as SDI's "IPM" and with Stanford's EAM work order management system will shorten the learning curve. Extensive background managing subcontractors on scheduled work to Stanford's quality standards is a plus. Familiarity with creating purchase orders on behalf of vendors and guiding them through our invoice processing system is critical. Architectural Trades also needs applicant to demonstrate the ability to source unique materials including flooring, laminates, countertops, raw materials and historically correct hardware for the restoration of building details in some cases dating back to the late 1800s.

Certificates and Licenses Required

• Must possess and maintain a valid California non-commercial Class C Driver's License.

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs, stand, walk and work for up to 3 hours at a time without sitting, and perform the tasks expected of a Maintenance Carpenter.

• Ability to drive day or night.

Working Conditions

• May be required to work overtime, evenings and weekends, including Holidays, sometimes in inclement weather conditions. Required to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Work Standards

• When conducting university business, must comply with the California Vehicle Code and Stanford University driving requirements. Must also comply with all OSHA health and safety standards.

The expected pay range for this position is $50.99 [step 1] to $ 61.76 [step 10] per hour. Placement in the pay range is subject to the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
