Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) - a student loan payment reimbursement program. Must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval - award amount (up to $200 -000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.

Duties

• Salmon - ID is a scenic mountain-town located on the outskirts of Idaho's Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness - with rustic origins in mining - lumbering and family ranching
• Over the years - it has evolved into a vibrant collection of art galleries - restaurants - and a community of adventurists that can only exist in a place that offers this much outdoor recreation
• The Physician Assistant will provide direct patient care and work as a member of an expanded healthcare team (social worker - dietician - clinical pharmacist - behavioral health clinician - and a care manager) to oversee and coordinate medical care for a population of Veterans in a group practice setting utilizing the new Patient Aligned Care Team model
• Duties include but not limited to: Perform initial histories and physical examinations on outpatients
• The supervising physician will review and countersign at least 10% of all progress notes
• Provide ongoing outpatient and inpatient care for assigned patients
• Screen outpatients to determine need for further care
• Prescribe medications within defined scope of practice
• Order diagnostic studies such as laboratory tests - x-rays - electrocardiograms (EKG's)
• Review needs for and order health promotion and disease prevention activities
• Initiates respond to and expedite request for consultations - special tests - and studies
• Provide education and counseling of patients and families in preventive care - medical conditions - and use of prescribed treatments and drugs
