The Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) practices in the Outpatient Chronic Pain clinic in the Anesthesia Department with the primary purpose to provide direct Pain care within the Pain Clinic through a full range of services emphasizing quality - timeliness - and the advancement of the Veterans Affairs (VA) mission. Demonstrates leadership in delivering and improving multimodal Pain care through collaborative strategies with others.
Duties
Duties include but are not limited to: Provides appropriate direct and indirect care within the outpatient Pain Clinic - including after hours on call coverage - and supporting the Inpatient Pain Service for Veterans ranging in age from 18 through the geriatric years - taking into consideration diagnosis and physical - psychosocial - spiritual - and cultural needs
Hold responsibility in coordinating activities within and between the various pain service programs - consulting & supporting services - as well as providing leadership within the multidisciplinary staff (e.g. - psychologists - pharmacists - physical therapists - nurses - schedulers - movement therapists - massage therapists - acupuncturists) to ensure optimal & efficient - Veteran centered health care
Share expertise in such care to learners in the VHA systems
Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team across services including (but not limited to): mental health - pain - whole health - education - primary care - rehabilitation services - acute care - surgical services - outpatient services - inpatient services - complimentary/integrated health
Work under varying levels of supervision - depending on the project - and must be responsible for sound decisions at all times - to include reporting the Acute Pain Service Attending Physician when participating in the hospital in our Acute Pain Service Expansion Program (APSEP)
Documents care and progress in the medical record Appropriately compiles - interprets and maintains required program records Evaluates progress in Pain Clinic practice and recommends changes in treatments - products or services as indicated Maintains necessary competency in the use of telehealth technology supporting quality care through these modalities
Preferred Experience: Preferred education is a master's degree or Doctoral degree Prefer at least 3 years of clinical experience as an NP after graduation from NP program Prefer 1-2 years of clinical experience in a multidisciplinary Pain Clinic Prefer prior experience working in a Veterans Affairs hospital Prefer prior experience treating substance abuse disorders in other healthcare setting Prefer experience with responsible opioid prescribing for pain and opioid use disorder Prefer prior experience working in a Veterans Affairs hospital Prefer experience managing chronic pain in an inpatient setting Prefer with performing minor pain procedures (ultrasound-guided injections - trigger point injections - dry needling - Botox for migraine - etc.)
