Office of Undergraduate Admission supports UCLA student enrollment goals through recruitment, admission, and yield practices consistent with the mission and values of the university. We seek to recruit and enroll high-achieving, talented students from diverse backgrounds from throughout California, the US, and abroad to both benefit from and contribute to one of the leading research universities in the world. Position Summary
In support of Undergraduate Admission (UA) efforts to meet annual new student recruitment and enrollment goals, the Assistant Director directs the development, planning, implementation and evaluation of new student recruitment and yield activities, and participates in application review. The primary objective of the position is to stimulate and motivate an academically competitive, talented and broadly diverse applicant pool of California resident, domestic non-resident and international students and assist these students through the admission and enrollment process. Visit secondary schools and community colleges in California, across the U.S. and internationally (as needed), providing substantive information about UCLA specifically, and the University of California generally (as required). Provide information on admissions requirements, processes and deadlines; financial aid; housing, and campus services.
While the Assistant Director may be assigned a specific target population and may specialize in that area, the incumbent will be sufficiently well-versed to work with a variety of prospective student audiences. Maintain a full schedule of school/college visits, making oral presentations and conducting workshops. Represent UA/UCLA in special joint programs with schools, colleges, and UC campuses. Advise prospective applicants and parents. Cultivate, establish and maintain working relations with counselors, administrators, and other school personnel. Based on analysis, designs, implements and participates in activities to increase the yield of highly able and other target recruitment populations. Participate in application review providing information on targeted schools, and by reading applications, assessing applicant academic performance, and recommending admission using established guidelines. Manage one or more specific functions, such as Stay-Over Programs; Campus Tours, Alumni and Bruin Ambassador Programs, and annual UA staff training as well as specialized staff training programs. Hire, train and supervise student assistants to support program needs.
Salary & Compensation
*UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Salary offers at the top of the range are not common. 3+ years of related job experience highly preferred. (Preferred)
Detailed knowledge of UCLA its academic programs, opportunities and services for students and University policies, procedures, deadlines and practices related to undergraduate admission at UCLA specifically, and the University of California more broadly highly preferred. (Preferred)
Knowledge and experience working with a diverse student population and community-based organizations. (Required)
Demonstrated ability to undertake a broad variety of activities, including but not limited to programmatic initiatives, internal and external group presentations, and the development and implementation of effective marketing strategies, to stimulate and motivate an academically competitive, talented and broadly diverse applicant pool. (Required)
Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively in person, through electronic and virtual media, and in writing, representing the University in a professional and accurate manner on often complex topics related to student academic preparation and University admission. (Required)
Demonstrated organizational skills in setting and managing priorities which accurately reflect relative importance of position responsibilities and that facilitate the completion of institutional and unit goals and successful programmatic outcomes. (Required)
Demonstrated skill in interpreting University admission guidelines and analyzing academic and test records to determine applicant eligibility and competitiveness for admission. (Required)
Demonstrated ability to develop, plan, implement and evaluate effective recruitment initiatives for targeted audiences. Ability to collect and interpret data from internal and external sources, i.e. Hobson's, College Board EPS, to gauge success of efforts and inform decision-making. Compiles data into reports. (Required)
Working knowledge of the University of California in general and other post secondary Educational opportunities, particularly in California, including their academic programs and services available to students, highly preferred. (Preferred)
Excellent interpersonal skills, sensitivity to the needs of a diverse prospective student population, a commitment to quality teamwork; initiative, independence, and motivation are required. (Required)
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with other staff members, subordinates, school administrators and officials and representatives. (Required)
Demonstrated skill in supervising Recruitment Assistants including delegating responsibility, training and evaluating performance. (Required)
Familiarity with and ability to use technology tools to advance unit goals. (Required)
Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations
Bachelor's Degree with 3+ years of related job experience highly preferred. (Required)
