Quantitative Ecology Lab Manager (SRA 3)

Job Summary



Provides high-level scientific research support for short- and long-term projects related to quantitative ecological research, frequently but not always with a focus on freshwater science.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

• Bachelor's degree in ecology, environmental science, biology, limnology, or a related discipline
• Minimum 1-2 years required conducting research in the field of ecology, environmental science, biology, limnology, or a related discipline
• Experience in environmental science field and lab research, experience programming for data management or analysis (e.g. in R or Python), a high level of attention to detail, ability to quickly learn and apply new skills, capacity to work efficiently with limited oversight, and good interpersonal skills. Candidate should be familiar with, or willing to learn, a variety of tools for open science, such as Ecological Metadata Language, Git/GitHub, RMarkdown or Quarto, and QGIS.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in ecology, environmental science, biology, limnology, or a related discipline
• Minimum 2-4 years required conducting research in the field of ecology, environmental science, biology, limnology, or a related discipline
• Experience using R, particularly with data management and visualization packages, familiarity with aquatic data collection in field and laboratory settings, and familiarity with remote sensing products related to environmental science. Experience with large-scale multi-institutional research collaborations

Department Overview

The Hampton research group focuses on quantitative analyses of ecological processes in aquatic environments. The approach frequently uses analysis of large public data sets, with coordinated networks of researchers distributed around the world, as well as some laboratory and field research.

This position is key for coordinating distributed team science projects, and ensuring access to high quality resources such as well-curated data as well as research supplies for field and lab.
