The Mann-Grandstaff VA Medical Center is recruiting for one Diagnostic Radiologist to perform duties in-person on a part-time basis in Spokane - Washington. A recruitment/relocation incentive has been authorized for this position and may be offered to a highly qualified candidate.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position - you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.
Basic Requirements:
United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy
Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine
The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed
Current - full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State - Territory - or Commonwealth of the United States - or in the District of Columbia
Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training - approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification
(NOTE: VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status.) Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) - b) OR [(2) Those approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) -OR (3) Other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States) - which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with appropriate professional training and believes has exposed the physician to an appropriate range of patient care experiences
Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs)
PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i.e. - not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis
PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged
rather - they are to have a "scope of practice" that allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision
Additionally - surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs
Proficiency in spoken and written English
Additional Requirement: Active board certification by the American Board of Radiology or a graduate of a residency program which granted board eligibility in the practice of radiology by the American Board of Radiology

Physical Requirements: Moderate lifting (15-44 pounds) - moderate carrying - straight pulling - pushing - reaching above shoulder - use of fingers - both hands required - walking - standing - ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously - near vision correctable at 13" to 16" to Jaeger 1 to 4 - far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other - ability to see a computer screen - depth perception - ability to distinguish basic colors - ability to distinguish shades of colors - hearing (aid permitted).
Duties
This position is for a specialist in diagnostic radiology who provides direct patient care in a hospital setting to adults with acute and chronic medical conditions and who serves as a consultant to other physicians
The radiologist should be experienced in the production and interpretation of diagnostic radiologic studies generated in the submodalities of computed tomography - general radiography - fluoroscopy - magnetic resonance imaging - nuclear medicine - DEXA - and ultrasonography
A radiologist experienced in the performance of procedures such as imaging guided biopsies - pain procedures - paracentesis - thoracentesis - and arthrography is preferred
Diagnostic radiologists appointed to the Diagnostic Imaging Service will be eligible for academic appointment with the affiliated Washington Health Sciences
Washington State University (WSU) and the University of Washington (U of W) will provide education - training - mentoring and supervision to radiology residents as part of a shared residency program with both programs
Additionally - diagnostic radiologists will be encouraged to pursue research into academic interests related to the field of radiology or nuclear medicine and participate in educational lectures and conferences sponsored by the Spokane VA Medical Center and the associated Universities
The radiologist will be expected to seek academic appointment with our academic affiliates
All Radiologists will read studies using a PACS system with a voice recognition dictation system and will have to interface with the electronic health record of the hospital and Radiology information systems
Individuals with specialized fellowship training in a particular subspecialty may be assigned supervisor responsibilities for that subspecialty and may function as the primary radiologist responsible for formulating policy - procedures - education - and training impacting the daily clinical operations of the subspecialty
The incumbent will be responsible for performing formal study interpretation - radiologic procedures - tumor board representation and consultation within the submodalities of computed tomography - general radiography - magnetic resonance imaging - nuclear medicine and ultrasonography
The incumbent will train and supervise healthcare trainees of all types in the performance of and education on diagnostic imaging examinations and procedures
Physicians eligible to take the examination for board certification may receive only a temporary appointment up to one year following completion of their radiology residency program
The incumbent will be willing when called upon to provide education and training to members of the medical staff through various conferences - committees - and lecture series
The incumbent may be assigned administrative or managerial responsibilities through participation in clinical - educational - and administrative committees - task groups or special projects
The primary work location is the Spokane VA Medical Center (Mann-Grandstaff VAMC) - but occasional coverage of outpatient imaging clinics may be required
The Radiologist will take turns rotating into the evening shift and working with the weekend shift as well as Holidays and after hours on-call rotations - as needed
Currently - a teleradiology service handles exam interpretation during non-duty hours - but this is subject to change - as needed
The on-call duties currently involve being available in the local area to respond for providing interpretation of exams during any system downtime - which happens infrequently
However - the need for a Radiologist to provide on-call interpretations is subject to change - and regular rotations of Radiologists for interpreting exams or other duties may arise in the future (nights - weekends - holidays) depending upon the needs of MGVAMC
