Position overview: Drive the next generation of online education at UCR! We're looking for an R&D Engineer 2 to build and refine AI powered tools that create and deliver multimedia content (videos, quizzes, presentations) on GESTALT, our proprietary learning platform.
What you'll do:
Develop & deploy AI content creation software .
Enhance and support the GESTALT platform, resolving bugs and optimizing performance.
Turn data into insights by collecting and analyzing user analytics to improve engagement.
Create and curate learning assets aligned with course objectives and accessibility standards.
Collaborate with faculty and guide undergraduate assistants.
Report & present technical progress to sponsors.

Please note: This position is grant-funded and is contingent upon funding.
The full salary range for this position is from $73,600.00 - $133,200.00. The expected salary range is up to $88,500.00. We base salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs.
Applicants must have current work authorization when accepting a UCR staff position. Currently, we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa for staff.

Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Effective written and verbal communication skills; ability to convey technical information to non-technical audiences.
Proficiency in Python and JavaScript/TypeScript, including frameworks such as FastAPI, Node.js, and React.
Ability to work in a collaborative manner, to assist in identifying any challenges or barriers.
Experience integrating web applications with Generative AI tools
Preferred Qualifications
Working knowledge of engineering principles and software development life-cycle practices.
Ability to conduct statistical data analysis and visualize results to guide product decisions.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize competing assignments and meet deadlines.
Working knowledge of engineering principles and methods in order to independently perform professional engineering design work of limited scope and complexity.
Background in Mechanical Engineering with sufficient knowledge and skills in computer programming and software development.

Department Custom Scope Under general supervision of the project's principal investigator, the R&D Engineer 2 applies professional engineering concepts to develop, implement, deploy, test and update AI-driven tools for content creation for a proprietary online learning platform. The engineer will integrate multiple technologies into this platform for seamless delivery of content such as videos, quizzes and presentations. The engineer will coordinate with domain experts to ensure accuracy of the content and to obtain feedback from instructors. The engineer will analyze data that is generated when students and instructors use the system and will assist in writing technical progress reports and present the data to sponsors.
