BASIC FUNCTION: Serves as educational and community leader at the high school and is responsible for providing assistance to the Principal and the Associate Principal in the administration of the total school program.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: The individuals filling this position will have specific functions assigned by the Principal and the Associate Principal. Functions may be rotated as needed.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: Evaluation of Certificated and Classified Staff as assigned. E Administers the student attendance program . E Administers a program of student discipline E Develops and maintains a relationship with law enforcement E Assists with and supervises staff assignments. E Responsible for student safety. E Assists with school activities. E Assists with curriculum development .E Assists with school specialized and categorical programs. E Assists Principal with supervision of school departments and extra-curricular programs. E Meets responsibilities on assigned District committee . E Assists Principal with selection of staff. E Meet responsibilities as a liaison with school and civic groups. E Assists with supervision, evaluation and improvement of existing instructional programs and curriculum. E Assists with staff development activities. E Assistant Principal-High School - continued Page 2 Meets responsibility as a District administration team member. E Performs related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Proper California Administrative Credential. Five (5) years of classroom teaching experience, preferably at the 9-12 grade level. Master’s Degree. Demonstrated leadership and organizational abilities at the high school level. Experience as a high school department chairperson is preferred. Meet District standards for physical and mental health. Appearance, grooming, and personality that establish a desirable example.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: KNOWLEDGE OF: Research in curriculum and staff development and in effective instructional practices. Comprehensive organization, activities, goals and objectives of a comprehensive high school. School law administration and applicable sections of the State Education Code and other applicable laws. Board and District policies, procedures and regulations. Employee-employer relations law and employee contracts. Principles and practices of administration, supervision and training. Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy. Oral and written communication skills.
ABILITY TO: Organize, coordinate and administer assigned programs at a comprehensive high school. Assist the Principal with administration duties as assigned. Direct, evaluate and supervise assigned staff. Exercise positive leadership with students, teachers, staff, parents and the public in establishing a good learning environment for the school. Plan and organize work. Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action. Read, interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Prepare and deliver oral presentations.
