Project Scientist Position (50% Effort) Center for Mind and Brain, University of California, Davis
Dr. Simona Ghetti in the Psychology Department at the University of California, Davis, in collaboration with MPI Dr. Nicole Glaser in the Department of Pediatrics, seeks to fill a 50% Project Scientist position beginning March 15, 2025 or as soon as possible after that. The position will have duration of 1 year, with the possibility of extending it for additional years. The successful candidate will work on research on neurocognitive consequences of Type 1 Diabetes in children as a part of a national study supported by the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney (NIDDK) Diseases.
Position description Job Description: Under direction from the PIs, the Project Scientist will perform research on neurocognitive consequences of Type 1 Diabetes in children as a part of multi-site national study funded by NIDDK. The project scientist will enroll children and their families in the clinical setting when children are initially diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. The Project Scientist will be additionally responsible for collecting and storing the data generated in the study in coordination with the PIs and the central Data Center at the University of Minnesota.
The project scientist will also train other lab members in all of the assessment, help write protocols and manuals of operation and ensure all research is conducted according to NIH and the NIDDK Study consortium. This position requires human data collection and data management. Finally, this position requires preparing research results for presentations and publications.
Job duties: Coordinate with PIs, research coordinators across sites and data center to prepare IRB protocols, manual of operations and training across sites. Participate in meetings with team members across all sites. Independently approach families to enroll their child, who will be newly diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at the UC Davis Medical Center. Independently approach families to enroll their child, who will be part of a comparison group, at general Pediatrics at the UC Davis Medical Center. Coordinate the collection and storage of biological samples from participants (e.g., plasma) Perform data collection of behavioral and neuroimaging data. Perform data storage and preparation to enable sharing with the Data Center at the University of Minnesota Coordinate participant payment Provide updates on enrollment, protocol adherence and data quality about our site. Be familiar with computer programs necessary for quality control and data collection and analysis. Contribute to the training of new lab personnel (e.g., graduate students, undergraduate volunteers, junior specialists) Help draft and submit research proposals, manuscripts and grants
