The Associate Physician (Board Eligible) reports directly to the clinical Vice Chair and Chair of the Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine and exercises a peer relationship with other faculty, residents, fellows, medical students, nursing personnel, and ancillary personnel in the role of patient care.
It is the expectation that physicians will work in a collegial manner combining clinical duties with instruction of residents, medical students, and certified registered nurse anesthetists. This position requires a thorough comprehension of the complex interactions between physiology, pathology, co-morbid medical conditions, pharmacology and procedural disruptions of homeostasis as such comprehension underlies the safe and effective practice of the discipline of anesthesiology. MSP providers must possess an understanding of quality of care standards as set forth by the American Society of Anesthesiology (ASA) and UCDH to administer anesthesia to a wide range of patients undergoing surgical, obstetric, diagnostic, therapeutic and interventional procedures across UCDH locations.

Minimum Qualifications
MD/DO
Experience performing functions of an anesthesiologist.
50 hours of CME in last two years.
Must have a DEA license or ability to obtain license.
Valid California Medical License
American Board of Anesthesiology Eligible
Skills to teach residents, medical students, student nurse anesthetists and others while in the operating rooms or other locations.
Physically and mentally able to perform duties of an anesthesiologist within the limits set by the operating rooms and other locations anesthesia is given.
Communicate to give feedback on residents' performance when required.
Ability to provide feedback for CQI purposes.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience documenting anesthetics and procedures in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) is preferred. All applicants must successfully complete the UCDHS EMR training.
Department Description
Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine is a leading multispecialty practice offering comprehensive training, high-quality patient care, conducting innovative research and educational opportunities. It is one of the largest departments in the School of Medicine with an annual budget of $79+ million and is comprised of 90 faculty, 15 MSP MDs, 32 VCF & associated faculty, 58 Residents, 10 Fellows, 65 Nurse Anesthetists and 35 Administrative Staff.
The Department provides patient care across many locations: UCD Medical Center, Lawrence J. Ellison Ambulatory Care Center (ACC), UC Comprehensive Cancer Center, Hospital-Based Clinics, and Community Care Networks (CCNs); providing service to 50+ operating suites each day and over 48,000 anesthetics annually. Funding includes state, endowment opportunity, indirect cost return, reserves, summer sessions, service enterprises, educational sales & service, & self-supporting activity.
