Summary of Duties:
Under general supervision, perform a variety of duties in support of Facilities Operations Steam Plants. Operate, maintain, and repair equipment and systems to include: high pressure boilers, electrical generators, water treatment equipment, condensate distribution equipment, pumps, air compressors, steam line operating components, and computer controlled operations of plant systems. This position will monitor and interpret information displayed at computer workstations for the computerized control of all Plant equipment and systems and may lead the work of other assigned plant employees during assigned shift. Additionally, this position will review safety policies and procedures to assure compliance with rules and regulations.
Required Qualifications:
Three years of experience in the operation, maintenance and/or repair of stationary or marine high pressure boilers and heating systems OR Certificate of completion of an Advanced Stationary Engineer course from an accredited vocational/technical school or community college AND two years of experience in the operation, maintenance and/or repair of stationary or marine high pressure boilers and heating systems OR one year of State service as a Stationary Engineer 1 OR equivalent education/experience.
Must have or be able to obtain a Boiler Operator, Third Class license within 6 months of hire date. First Aid, CPR, and AED training are required annually.
Must be able to work a rotating shift or relief operations duty as necessary based on Plant operational needs.
Ability to respond to worksite on a 24-hour basis.
Must have, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications:
Mechanical or Electrical Engineering education and/or degree.
Recent experience as a high pressure steam boiler operator in a steam plant utilizing a computer operated, distributed control system.
Recent experience operating 1MW or larger gas or diesel-fired electrical generators.
