The Student Employment Center is part of the University Human Resources Service Center. The Service Center is comprised of three main areas/teams: Life Cycle Support Services, HR Help Center, and the Student Employment Center. The HR Service Center teams within University Human Resources provide quality services to achieve effective management of a workforce supporting teaching, research, and public service at Oregon State University.
The Student Employment Center consists of two teams supporting graduate student employment services and undergraduate (hourly) student employment services. The teams focus solely on providing HR service and support to all student employment positions at Oregon State University.
The Student Employment Specialist is responsible for performing procedural and administrative processing in the areas of student recruitment and selection, student onboarding, and student employee records and reporting. The Student Employment Specialist is often the first point of contact for walk-in traffic and customers that come in to the Student Employment Center. The Student Employment Specialist works under general guidance from the Student Employment Center Supervisor.
The Student Employment Specialist is responsible for assisting administrators and supervisors in achieving goals and outcomes in the areas of diversity, affirmative action and equal opportunity, employee relations, labor relations, and management of personnel resources.
Typically requires Three years of experience in program coordination/office administration; OR two years of human resources clerical support experience directly assisting human resources professionals in the administrative functions of human resources program.

Three years progressively responsible administrative, clerical or record-keeping support experience.
College-level course work may substitute for the general experience requirement based on 45-quarter units per year.

Experience working in a fast-paced environment.

Strong organizational office skills necessary for record keeping and maintaining accurate records.
Strong interpersonal skills necessary to develop, establish and maintain effective, professional, collaborative, and collegial relationships with customers, stakeholders, other employees, and others with whom we may work .
Demonstrated experience and competency operating and working effectively and efficiently with computers and other forms of office technology, electronic data, computer programs and software applications (especially Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook). This includes the ability to effectively and efficiently learn new technologies and software solutions.
Well-reasoned decision making with a high attention to detail in actual work product, organization, planning, workflow, and work prioritization to ensure tasks are completed efficiently and accurately.

The Student Employment Center is a fast paced, high volume, customer service-oriented environment, requiring the ability to multitask while remaining flexible with changing priorities and deadlines and ensuring a high level of customer service.
Normal business operations are Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
The incumbent may be required to stand for short periods of time, on a regular basis, to perform essential functions of the job. The incumbent may occasionally need to lift, carry, push, and/or pull objects weighing up to 10 pounds.
This position will occasionally work away from primary work site for hiring sessions, interview sessions, training, etc.
Performance of the essential functions requires a combination of regular, consistent availability, accessibility, and presence on-site due to the nature and scope of the essential functions; the importance of personal interactions between this position, employees, customers and other members of the public; and the availability of job-related tools, equipment, and resources at work.
Non-exempt employees in this position are expected to work varying amounts of either (a) unscheduled overtime during periods of high volume work; or (b) scheduled overtime required to accomplish special projects.
