Description: Baylor University's Department of Geosciences invites applications for a tenure track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level in Earth Surface Processes, effective Fall 2025.
We seek applicants who demonstrate a potential and commitment to develop an outstanding, externally funded research program. The most competitive candidates will establish a clear connection between their research program and current big-picture questions in the fields of Earth Surface Processes. The specific area of expertise is open and includes the application of analytical, modeling, and field- and lab-based methodologies in areas including, but not limited to, climate science, engineering geology, hydrogeology, hydrogeophysics, hydrologic sciences, geoarchaeology, geomorphology, pedology and paleopedology, and remote sensing. Top applicants will also enthusiastically commit to the teaching and mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students and postdoctoral researchers.
Teaching opportunities may include a broad scope of undergraduate and graduate classes, such as climate change, hydrogeology, hydrologic processes, hydrology, geomorphology, geostatistics, GIS, remote sensing, and water management. Teaching responsibilities are expected to include existing undergraduate and graduate courses in the Department of Geosciences and new course offerings based on the candidate's expertise.
Baylor's Department of Geosciences offers bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees and includes 12 tenured and tenure-track geoscientists with significant departmental facilities and resources. Many collaborative research, teaching, and mentorship opportunities will exist for our new Earth Surface Processes hire within the Department and across the university.

Qualifications:
An earned doctorate by the time of appointment is required.
Post-doctoral experience preferred.
A sustained record of research accomplishment with the potential to generate external funding commensurate with their career stage is expected.
Candidates should also be able to demonstrate experience in one or more of the following: mentoring of graduate and/or undergraduate students; teaching including development and delivery of instructional materials; engagement with programs directed toward first-generation students; active involvement in scientific outreach; service to the scientific community; and supervision of graduate and/or undergraduate research.
