Position Summary The HPC Lead Engineer will guide technical strategy, development, operational management, and end-user support of an institutional high-performance compute (HPC) cluster and service.
Essential Duties
Provides technical leadership for system architecture, configuration, enhancements, and implementations for new and existing research systems.
Manages all aspects of high-performance computing infrastructure, including OS and software installations and upgrades, system maintenance, performance monitoring and optimization, end-user access, and security, to support the research communitys computational needs effectively.
Administers research data storage system, overseeing data provisioning, security, and accessibility to ensure efficient and secure data management for research initiatives.
Manages research data backup systems, ensuring the reliable and secure backup, retention, and recovery of critical research data.
Implements and maintains technical security controls and HIPAA compliance measures, encompassing encryption, access controls, audit logging, vulnerability assessments, and incident response procedures to safeguard healthcare data.
Fosters a supportive work environment and maintains open, productive interactions among team members and across the organization.
Other Duties
Develops and maintains technical documentation and diagrams for research computing and data storage systems, ensuring a comprehensive resource for effective system management and operation.
Recommends and develops policy/procedure and standards relating to research infrastructure and services.
Provides end-user documentation and support ensuring optimal performance, troubleshooting issues, and facilitating efficient utilization of computational resources.
Provides quality assurance by testing system operation and unit functions including systems recoverability and validation of backup and restores.
Coordinates with IST staff to problem solve, develop solutions, inform, train, and support new and modified systems.
Coordinates with vendors to resolve hardware and software issues.
Periodic off-hours support for system maintenance activities.

Salary Range: $95,000 - $115,000

Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems or a closely related field.
Work Experience: Minimum of 3 years as a Linux System Administrator performing the installation, configuration, and support of a high-performance computing (HPC) environment required.
