University of South Dakota Assistant or Associate Professor of Music Piano – Rawlins Piano Trio Tenure Track Position Department of Music
Position: Full-time, ten-month, tenure track Assistant or Associate Professor. Seeking a dynamic professional whose primary responsibilities are to teach graduate and undergraduate piano, both solo and collaborative, and serve as a member of the Rawlins Piano Trio. The candidate must collaborate with colleagues to recruit students at both the graduate and undergraduate levels, manage keyboard area events, accompany performances, and manage the collaborative piano area of the Music Department. Secondary responsibilities may include but are not limited to: teach courses in piano literature, piano pedagogy, chamber music, class piano, and/or additional keyboard applied studio lessons. Other duties may include but are not limited to: serving on graduate committees, supervising independent study projects, coaching chamber music, or other projects as appropriate to appointee’s qualifications and departmental needs. Harpsichord or pianoforte experience is a plus. As part of a normal workload you may be asked to teach online courses. Excellence in teaching and recruiting is expected. Appointment begins July 22, 2024.
The Rawlins Piano Trio is a dynamic group of performers, teachers and scholars, distinguishing itself in arts outreach, masterclasses and a variety of performances. Their diverse repertoire ranges from standard works to new and undiscovered pieces deserving to be brought into the public light. Owing to its expertise as a preeminent interpreter of American music, the ensemble has recorded five CDs of these works. The members of the Trio are on the faculty of the University of South Dakota Department of Music. As enthusiastic teachers, outreach is a vital component of their touring schedule with masterclasses and school visits on a regular basis throughout the United States and abroad. The ensemble is named in honor of the late Marjorie and Robert Rawlins, its principal benefactors and graduates of the University of South Dakota in the 1940s.
Rank and Salary: Assistant or Associate Professor, salary based on qualifications with a starting salary of $50,000. US sponsorship is not available for this position

Doctorate in keyboard performance, pedagogy, collaborative piano, or equivalent required. ABD with appropriate performance and teaching experience will be considered. Candidates must show demonstrated success in teaching at the collegiate level, experience as a collaborative pianist, and experience as a chamber musician.
