Overview
Saint Mary's College seeks to hire a per-course adjunct faculty member to teach KINES 240: Introduction to Health Promotion in Spring 2024. Mondays and Wednesdays, 1:30-2:45pm. This is a 3 unit course with a 1 unit Community Engagement component.
Health promotion is a discipline that seeks to improve the health of individuals and communities through education, behavioral change, and environmental improvement. This course provides students with an introduction to the principles of health promotion by exposing students to strategies used to promote health to individuals, to groups in specific settings such as schools and work places, and to entire communities. The course will develop and extend students' understanding of public health principles, human behavior, and determinants of health in order to explore recent advances in the science and art of health promotion. Specific attention is paid to health disparities and determinants of health. Students will be involved in health promotion program development and/or delivery as part of their community engagement project.
Qualifications: The successful candidate will hold a terminal degree in Kinesiology or a closely related field and have a recent publication record in the field, or a Masters degree in Kinesiology or a closely related field and have at least five years of current, relevant professional experience. Demonstrated teaching effectiveness at the graduate level as evidenced by recent course evaluations is strongly preferred. Candidates should be comfortable supporting and working in a multicultural environment.
Candidates must reside in California.
Salary: $9,929-$13,744 dependent on qualifications. The salary range for this position is covered by the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the College and SEIU, Local 1021, available here.
