Overview
Saint Mary's College seeks to hire a per-course adjunct faculty member to teach the elective course KINES 674: Planning and Staging Sport Events in the Graduate Kinesiology Program in Spring 2024. Mondays, 6:00-9:00pm.
The Master of Arts in Kinesiology program at Saint Mary's College focuses on the study of human beings engaged in physical activity. It is designed to ensure that graduate students are exposed to the breadth and depth of classical and contemporary knowledge in the component areas of the field while taking advantage of the finest things about Saint Mary's College (e.g., an interest in the student as a person and an emphasis on shared inquiry and critical thinking). Students select a concentration that fits best with their personal and professional goals: Sport Studies, Sport Management, or Fitness Management, and typically complete the program in 14 to 26 months.

Responsibilities
KINES 674: Planning and Staging Sport Events will focus on the political and organizational dynamics required to plan and stage sporting events. Topics include: political processes required to gain event approval; security and risk management; financial analysis and budget planning; event marketing; human resource needs; media and public relations; spectator and VIP needs; transportation and parking; medical and safety requirements; and design requirements for temporary and long term facilities to host events.
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: Understand the relationship between design and utilization of sport facilities; Learn decision making and problem solving techniques relating to the management of sport events and facilities; Learn to develop, implement and evaluate an event plan; Plan/manage/evaluate an event via the course project; Critically analyze facility spaces and events for their best and worst practices; Communicate ideas effectively in both oral and written forms; Develop communication skills and group management skills; Learn by doing via the required event audits and volunteer experiences.
Qualifications:
- Master's degree or higher in Kinesiology or related field.
- Minimum of 2 years teaching in higher education in Kinesiology or related field.
Candidates must reside in California.
Salary: $7,447-$10,308 dependent on qualifications. The salary range for this position is covered by the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the College and SEIU, Local 1021, available here.
