Responsibilities This position requires frequent interaction with research personnel and Principal Investigators in the Department of Pediatrics and various research-related functional offices and programs such as the IRB, Contracts, Contracts and Grants Accounting, Finance, Business Contracts, Accounts Payable, and Sponsored Programs. A key function of this position is to support the financial needs of the Department of Pediatrics clinical trial portfolio during start-up, budgeting, and feasibility analysis. This position will also provide a logistical implementation of the start-up phase of clinical trials, feasibility assessment of new grant proposals, and education and training for UC Davis investigators and clinical research staff on start-up processes. This position provides hands-on support to clinical trials during the start-up and transitional phases, as well as providing consultations and participating in improving feasibility and start-up processes. The incumbent will work on problems of diverse scope and complexity in close alignment with the IRB administration, Health Contracts, Health Compliance Office, and the Department of Research investigators and Clinical research coordinators.
Required Qualifications
Experience in negotiating and associated conflict resolution.
Experience using generally accepted accounting principles and practices (GAAP).
Demonstrated experience in study management, start-up, and implementation.
Research administration and financial management experience: Managing multiple awards and account management in compliance with applicable department, University, and Federal agency policy.
Experience and knowledge working with Cayuse SP, Electronic Conflict of Interest (eCOI) System, Kuali Financial System, IRBNet, OnCore, Innovation Access, REDCap, Windows, Microsoft Office Suite, web browser applications, and email applications.
Advanced background and knowledge of clinical trial operations,
Skills to manage numerous funds involving different accounting procedures, including analysis, reconciliation, projection, fiscal closing, and grant preparation; serving internal and external customers in preparing, reviewing, and submitting proposals for contracts and grants. Managing both pre and post-award activities.
Possess good investigative skills with high accuracy and great attention to detail.
Analytical skills to evaluate information, practices, and procedures, formulate logical and objective conclusions, and recommend effective solutions, strategies, and approaches.
Problem-solving skills to use logic to solve complex and challenging problems with practical solutions.
Skilled in organization, time management, and priority setting.
Extensive knowledge of federal & state regulations, GCP guidelines, HIPAA, institutional policies, and SOPs for the conduct of human research in an academic environment
Working knowledge of clinical research management.
Skills to organize and analyze financial and other data types in complex spreadsheets.
Exercise excellent judgment and maintain the strictest confidentiality of patients, study subjects, and academic matters.
Skills to communicate and apply terms and conditions of various sponsors, federal, state, and University guidelines, policies, and procedures governing research, including but not limited to intellectual property.
Skills to use computer software and web-based financial information system applications, including DaFIS/Kuali, Decision Support, Effort Reporting System, and other Windows-based programs.
Demonstrated knowledge of university policies and procedures on purchasing, travel, entertainment, payroll, personnel, transfers of expenses, invoicing, and collections is mandatory. Federal financial guidelines as stated in OMB A-110, OMB-Circular A-21, and federal audit guidelines in OMB-Circular A-133. UC accounting and financial policies related to the management of Extramural funding.
Ability to work independently and also work effectively in a team environment.
Administrative skills and ability to exercise sound judgment, initiative, and resourcefulness, and to use these skills when managing staff and workload.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both verbal and written, to maintain effective relationships with staff, colleagues, and external customers; understand and appropriately respond to multiple and frequent inquiries, requests, and instructions in a courteous, cooperative, and professional manner with tact and diplomacy.

Preferred Qualifications
Society for Clinical Research Associates (SOCRA) Certified Clinical Research Professional (CCRP) or Association of Clinical Research Professionals (ACRP) Certified Clinical Research Coordinator (CCRC)
Maintains knowledge and certification of one of the following medical coding certifications: CCS-P, CCS, CPC, or CPHC.
A bachelor's degree in business, public health, or a science-related field; a master's degree in public health, Business Administration, or Health Administration is desirable.
Previous experience working in Pediatric industry trials.
Working knowledge of OnCore financial submissions and maintenance.
