Assistant, Associate, or Full Professional Researcher - Debnath lab

The Department of Pathology is seeking an Assistant, Associate or Full Professional Researcher for the laboratory of Dr. Jayanta Debnath, whose lab focuses on autophagy in cancer and age-related neurodegeneration. We are looking for a talented scientist who will contribute to investigations related to secretory autophagy and will involve the isolation and analysis of extracellular vesicle populations from cell culture, mouse and human iPS models.

This individual will be expected to:

1. Conduct an ongoing independent research project with minimal supervision focused on the role of autophagy and the control of extracellular vesicle secretion using both neural cell-based and cancer cell models. Experiments will include extensive use of cell culture and mouse models available in the Debnath lab. The initial focus of the studies will include, but not be limited to, generation of iPS cells with deficiencies in secretory autophagy and the analysis of how such perturbations impact EV secretion, proteostasis and RNA homeostasis in both iPS cells and derivatives.

2. Collaborate and assist other scientists in the Debnath lab and other UCSF labs on experimental research projects in the fields of cell biology molecular biology and proteomics. Studies will include of experiments on secretory autophagy and how such pathways influence proteostasis and biomolecular condensate formation. Experiments will involve extensive use of molecular and cell biology, protein biochemistry, and cell culture.

3. Assist with lab management of the Debnath lab. Major tasks will include, but are not limited to, helping maintain compliance with institutional biological safety, chemical safety and IACUC protocols, and maintaining and organizing stock supplies and reagents.

Required Qualifications:

• Possess a Ph.D. degree (or equivalent degree) in cell, molecular, cancer biology or neurobiology, or in a related field by the time of hire.
• Applicants' materials must list current and/or pending qualifications upon submission.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Strong background and hands-on expertise in cell culture and cell biology and proteomics.

Screening of applicants will begin immediately and will continue as needed throughout the recruitment period. Salary and rank will be commensurate with the applicants experience and training.
