Position Description:
This full-time position at The Winston School requires an individual with knowledge of diagnostic procedures, and a commitment to the education of students with learning disabilities to include dyslexia, dysgraphia, ADHD, and related learning challenges. The candidate must be skilled in communication and willing to establish strong relationships within our community.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Assists in completing testing required for New Students, Triennials, and Juniors during the summer months and the throughout the school year
- Assists in completing Fall and Spring Testing of all students
- Assists teachers in becoming more knowledgeable about student profiles by being a diagnostic resource through a process known as Staffing
- Assists in organizing information for feedback in conferences (CHAT) with the parents
- Attends Junior Testing conferences with parents and students, along with the college counselor and participates as part of the college team
- Assists in writing Learning Profiles and developing strategies for students of all ages
Additional Information:
New Student and Triennial Testing involves administering and scoring IQ, achievement, self-concept and a brief personality type testing, developing graphs of students, and writing Learning Profiles, along with educational strategies.
Junior Testing involves administrating, scoring, and compiling IQ, achievement, aptitude and interest, and personality type as well as informal questions regarding college readiness. Also develop graphs for all testing, and write Learning Profiles, Accommodations, Eligibility Letters, and other documentation required for the Juniors. Attends the PEP meetings, explaining the IQ, achievement, aptitude and interest as well as the personality testing to the parents and student.
Spring Testing involves group testing, administering the subtests that must be given individually, and/or completing any additional testing for students who might have been absent during the group testing.
Staffing is a meeting conducted with the diagnosticians and teachers at the beginning of the year to help them understand every student, including their Individual Learning Profile and background information. Staffing continues throughout the year when new students enter and/or teachers need more help
Learning Profiles are written overviews of each student’s strengths and weaknesses developed by analyzing the student’s cognitive and achievement scores, their interests, and other information provided in their files.
Qualifications / Experience:
- Certified Educational Diagnostician
- Master’s Degree preferred
- Bachelor’s Degree considered with certification as an Educational Diagnostician
