The Director of the Office of International Services is a critical leader who oversees the development, promotion, implementation and assessment of international services at UT Health San Antonio. The Director is the principal champion to partner with school and departmental leaders in the recruitment of international faculty, students, postdoctoral scholars, medical residents, and staff. The Director also leads and coordinates institutional processes related to global education/student study abroad programs, international agreement development, and facilitates international exchange program management.
Directs and manages institutional compliance with federal requirements for visa sponsorship for international students and scholars, including, but not limited to, the following non-immigrant visa categories: B-1, F-1, E-3, J-1 scholar and physician, H-1B, TN, and O-1, along with Conrad 30 waiver applications, and employment-based U.S. permanent residency sponsorship.
Serves as the campus’s official liaison with the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of State, the Department of Labor, the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG), and other federal authorities and organizations.
Represents the institution as the Primary Designated School Official for the F-1 visa program and as the institution’s Responsible Officer for the J-1 visa program.
Serves as the designated administrator facilitating the University’s education abroad activities, including international agreement development and exchange program management.
Oversees University’s education abroad activities, including exchange program management and international health, risk, and safety for international travelers, serving as chair of the International Oversight Committee and the International Crisis Response Team.
Designs, promotes, and works with OIS team and the Campus Internationalization Committee (CIC) to implement programmatic activities that support international students and scholars and showcase the important role that internationalism plays in the University’s educational, research, and clinical missions.
Partners with campus stakeholders to continually improve services and update policies to enhance the experience for international students and scholars, as well as the faculty and staff who host them.
Advocates for and serves as the primary spokesperson for international students and scholars on campus and within the local and national community.
Represents the institution with key constituent groups, both internally and with external groups such as UT System, NAFSA: Association of International Educators, Fulbright Program, and the City of San Antonio’s Global Engagement Office.
Directs the Office of International Services, including supervising and mentoring the professional and administrative support staff of the Office, and managing the financial resources of the Office.
Performs all other duties as assigned.
Education: Bachelor's degree ininternational education, higher education administration, global studies, intercultural global studies, or related field.
Master's degree in international education, higher education administration, global studies, intercultural global studies, or related field strongly preferred.
Experience: Bachelor's degree and ten years of direct job experience at a comprehensive university (undergraduate; graduate; and professional degree granting institution).
Master's degree and five years of direct job experience at a comprehensive university (undergraduate; graduate; and professional degree granting institution).
