Position Summary: Perform maintenance activities on electrical systems, electronic instruments, control systems, and pneumatic controls at the Cooperatives electric generating stations, achieving a high degree of reliability and efficiency. Perform other duties as required
Tasks, Duties and Responsibilities: Diagnose and troubleshoot malfunctions, and repair electrical systems, electronic instruments, and control systems. Perform preventative maintenance on power plant electrical apparatus, instruments and control systems including electronic equipment used with the turbine/generator. This includes the control system hardware and software and all other DCS equipment. Also included are: voltage regulators, protective relays, burner controls and boiler safety equipment, and other plant equipment and devices. Install and modify instruments and control systems as required for safer and more efficient operation of the plant. Maintain the proper operation of indicators for temperature, pressure and flow. Clean, calibrate, repair and adjust them as required. Assist with the instruction of operators to familiarize them with control system operation. Perform on-the-job training of maintenance workers and be responsible for the safety of co-workers. Perform all safety-related duties of the job-develop Safe Work Permits, LOTO’s, and other permits required, report hazards, use required PPE, monitor co-workers’ safety. Enter work done and monitor work assignments daily in JDE. Help maintain an adequate stock of spare parts and keep maintenance records of station instruments and control system. Work with Maintenance Supervisor and Operations Supervisor scheduling maintenance and testing activity. Conduct the instruments and metering portion of performance testing of equipment, systems and plant. Prepare requests for requisitions for parts and materials associated with instruments, control systems, chemical supplies and test equipment. Maintain file of equipment instructions and drawings. Make, as necessary, red line drawings showing changes made in the field on CWD’s and instrument or control systems. Assist other technicians and manufacturers/contractors representatives in plant when needed. Test various alarm systems. Substitute as an operator in extreme emergencies. Perform substitution switching when required.
Education and Experience Requirements: High School Diploma or equivalent certificate plus 2 years of related college level, military or vocational school training equivalent to an associate’s degree in electrical/electronic/instrumentation. Minimum of 1 year of power plant maintenance experience. Emerson Ovation experience and GE Mark VIe experience is highly desired
Physical and Environmental Requirements: Requires working inside and outside of an electric generating plant in varying weather conditions and temperature extremes with extreme ranges of humidity and dryness. Requires working in areas of constant high noise and vibration levels. Requires lifting, pushing pulling or carrying of weights equal to 50 pounds or more. Requires climbing ladders and stairs. Requires wearing personal safety equipment, including breathing apparatus. Requires hearing within normal range, hearing aids are permitted. Requires vision within normal range, corrective lenses are permitted. Must possess a valid driver’s license. Must be able to respond within 45 minutes to the plant facility and be available for 24-hour on-call and emergency response.
