This position will work under the direct supervision of the Principal Investigators (PIs), David Sheridan and Matt Hansen. The Research Assistant (RA) will serve as a study coordinator and will be responsible for direct patient consent and enrollment of an observational clinical trial to evaluate the current diagnostic utility of a new vital sign for sepsis in patients presenting to the ED. The RA will screen, identify, and then obtain measurements of patients with a simple, non-invasive device of finger blood flow at the bedside upon arrival to the ED and throughout their stay. In addition, the RA will abstract data from the clinical chart correlating to the outcomes of interest. The RA will be responsible for data management, basic descriptive analysis and assist the PIs with preparation of data for more advanced analysis (but not expected to perform the advanced analysis). The RA will be expected to troubleshoot and care for minor issues that arise with the device and communicate with the engineering team as needed. The RA will be encouraged to attend research section and any departmental meetings.
Bachelor's Degree / No Experience; OR Associate's Degree and 2 years of relevant experience; OR No degree and 4 years of relevant experience
Proficiency and versatility within Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access and PowerPoint software programs as well as Microsoft Outlook
Advanced spreadsheet skills, including complex functions, formulas, and formatting
Excellent organizational skills; the ability to prioritize and make independent judgments and decisions
Excellent proofreading abilities
Ability to navigate all levels of staff and outside agencies
Ability to work independently and as a member of the admin team
Ability to communicate effectively and clearly in both verbal and written forms.
