The Institute on Development and Disability within the Department of Pediatrics at OHSU works with patients, families, clinicians, researchers and many other professionals to meet the goal of improving the lives of people with disabilities. We perform research and care to support every patient, from premature babies to older adults, facing changes in life due to the onset of disabling conditions. The Institute on Development & Disabilitys Division of Psychology engages in clinical research activities that seek to understand and improve the physical and mental health of children and their families. Division faculty also supervise psychology trainees in student research activities.
As a Research Assistant II, this individual is responsible for clinical and administrative research activities related to ongoing clinical research in the IDD Division of Psychology and the Advancing Research in Pediatric Pain (ARPP) Lab. The primary assignment of this position is to serve as a research assistant for ongoing clinical research conducted within the ARPP lab. Tasks include responsibility for implementing the protocols for funded studies in the ARPP lab, including the TEMPO (Teen Musculoskeletal Pain Outcomes) and ROAM (Research on the Adolescent Management of Pain) studies which are NIH-funded projects. Duties include: strategic recruitment and retention of participants, maintaining project databases and procedures, and communicating effectively with recruitment clinics and other members of the study team.
This position will also be responsible for supporting related research projects and activities in the ARPP Lab, which will include assisting with IRB submissions and modifications, creating study documents, assisting with preparing manuscripts, working with REDCap databases for survey studies, conducting lab-based visits with participants, enrolling and consenting participants, and participant tracking for cross-sectional and longitudinal studies.
This position will be involved in the development and drafting of information products including reports, research publications, and presentations for funders and scientific audiences. The appointee shall provide services as assigned by the supervisor in furtherance of the universitys missions and goals of teaching, research, patient care, outreach and public service. This position is unclassified, salaried and could include working some evening or weekend hours.
The project work supports the mission, goals and objectives of the IDD, Department of Pediatrics, School of Medicine, and OHSU.
Bachelors Degree (4 yr) with major courses in field of research and research management with no experienceORAssociates Degree (2 yr) and 3 years of relevant experience.
Highly proficient with Microsoft Office applications (WORD, EXCEL, POWERPOINT).
Knowledge of SPSS/ statistical software.
Knowledge of research compliance and related systems (e.g., IRB).
Excellent interpersonal and administrative skills for assisting in the day-to-day operation of complex and multiple projects.
Successful in communicating effectively with senior staff for the day to day operation of projects that impact research quality and/or the timely completion of work.
Degree in Psychology or other Social Science.
3-5 years of experience conducting behavioral or health research with parents and/or children.
1-2 years experience working on multi-site study protocols.
2+ years experience with recruitment, tracking, and retention of large clinical samples.
Knowledge about chronic pain conditions.
Knowledge of parenting and/or child psychology.
Academic or work experience using a standard statistical software library (e.g. SPSS) for descriptive analysis.
Knowledge of NIH-funded human subjects or clinical research.
Project management training.
