Position Purpose: The middle and upper school Spanish Faculty is part of the Mountain Academy community and their role is to inspire curiosity, enagement & leadership through by providing high quality learning opportunities, based on strong curriculum, instruction, and assessment. Faculty members will prioritize student-centered, personalized learning within place-based contexts, whenever possible. The middle and upper school teams will build strong relationships with colleauges, students and families. Within the collaborative work environment of TSS, faculty members should expect to be contributing team members, while also taking the initiative to work autonomously.
Qualifications: • Master's Degree Preferred • At least 5 years experience in a relevent field • Ability to effectively communicate with internal and external constituents • Strong speaking and written communication skills • Ability to manage risk and make leadership decisions in front and backcountry settings. • Familiarity with Microsoft Office products and Google Apps • Familiarity with place-based education & knowledge of IB program preferred
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements: • Combination of indoor and outdoor learning environments • May be expected to work evenings, weekends or overtime to support special programs/events • Able to drive 15 passenger vans & minibuses with participants • Time spent hiking/camping in front- and back-country settings
Responsibilities: 55% Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment • Write curriculum congruent with IB and MA guidelines; collaborate with team to optimize integrated curriculum • Document curriculum using MA unit planning system • Assess student work regularly and document learning; provide timely reports at regular reporting periods • Provide engaging instruction that is appropriately differentiated to each student • Develop curriculum for innovative programming that maximizes opportunities for students • Plan and safely execute multiple extended and overnight field trips • Communicate regularly with parents on curriculum and individual student updates, as needed
5% Leadership of Spanish Teaching Team • Responsible for development, implementation and documentation of K-12 Spanish curriculum • Provide mentorship and coaching for less experienced Spanish faculty • Meet weekly with Spanish faculty to provide support and leadership in developing and implementing curriculum
20% Advisory • Develop advisee character through check-ins, goal-setting, student reflections, monitoring hands to work & service learning • Support implementation of social emotional and leadership curriculum, as appropriate through advisory time • Regularly communicate with advisee families about successes, challenges, and updates • Attend and host learning team conferences
15% Team • Attend required school & community events • Complete duties: hands to work, supervise students during unstructured free play, lunch, bus, and general community support • Provide internal coverage if substitutes are not available • Take part in all Mountain Academy and team faculty meetings • Take part in pre-service and in-service professional development, including professional learning communities • Align with team culture and goals • Support administrative duties associated with successful implementation of program
5% One TSS Responsibilities • Develop and implement place based education pedagogies. • Take part in various greater TSS programs • Contribute to inclusive work and learning environments through continually developing cultural competency.
