The Smith River Community Services District is located along the Northern California coast in Del Norte County. The District is surrounded by the Pacific Ocean, redwoods, wild rivers, dairies and farms, and historical areas. The District provides drinking water to the community of Smith River which includes service to approximately 650 residential and commercial connections. The District additionally operates the community town hall and street light zone.
The Board of Directors is seeking a qualified General Manager for the management and operation of the District's water system. The General Manager is responsible for staff supervision, treatment, distribution, and maintenance of the system. The General Manager ensures the District complies with all federal, state and local laws, regulations, and ordinances relating to drinking water distribution. The ideal candidate is a strong leader with the ability to effectively communicate and maintain good working relationships.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Communicate and advise the Board of Directors of all current and future business relating to the District.
Attend monthly board meetings.
Complete and file all regulatory reports as required by the State Water Control Board and other government agencies.
Provide supervision to District staff.
Responsible for hiring and performance reviews.
Maintain records and complete written and oral reports as required.
Manage District projects and grants.
Keep all necessary supplies and equipment ordered and stocked.
Operation, construction, maintenance and repair of District water distribution, including water mains, laterals, valves, wells, fire hydrants, pumping stations, water meters, storage tanks, and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA).
Minimum Qualifications:
Valid Water Distribution System Operator Certificate (Grade 2 or above).
High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
Valid Class C driver license and reliable means of transportation.
Working on call, weekends and long hours may be required.
Not required, but preferred:
One year of management or supervisory experience
Certification for back flow devices or obtain within 1 year of hire date.
