The hired Executive Director will work with President & CEO of Visit Corpus Christi on the creation of the Corpus Christi Sports Commission to include bylaws, budget, hiring, asset development, sales and marketing strategies.
SUMMARY OF PRINCIPAL & MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: The Executive Director, Corpus Christi Sports Commission is primarily responsible for supervising and coordinating daily activities for the Corpus Christi Sports Commission (CCSC) including ongoing recruitment of new water and land sports related conventions, tournaments, and clinics to Corpus Christi. In addition, foster a foundation of CCSC support with area media, businesses, event coordinators, and National Governing Bodies in the sports industry.
The mission of the Corpus Christi Sports Commission is to attract and develop water and land sporting events, sports related clinics and conventions for increased economic impact in the Corpus Christi region.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Essential Functions):
Develop and implement the strategic goals and objectives of the commission. Give direction and leadership toward the achievement of the organization's philosophy, mission, strategy and its annual goals and objectives.
Create sports related network in the Corpus Christi community, inclusive of water and land sports contacts, sports media, event organizers and sponsors to better assist the CCSC.
Develop and assist with the implementation of the annual investor strategy for the CCSC.
Recruit new water and land sports related convention and event business to Corpus Christi. Maintain relationships with the relevant National Governing Bodies and organizations.
Provide support and logistical assistance to event organizers in the planning and conducting of their athletic related events held in the Corpus Christi region.
Maintain an open dialogue with the Visit Corpus Christi and CCSC Executive Boards.
Assist in the writing and distribution of all press releases and relevant event information to the media, sponsors.
Develop, grow, and manage volunteer program
Manage annual operating budget
Work with VCC President & CEO to develop annual goals for CCSC.
Responsible for achieving a satisfactory rating annually as it relates to approved annual goals and objectives.
Accountable by assuring that all direct reporting staff, if applicable, has achieved their annual development goals.
Performs other incidental and related duties as required and assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (Requirements are representative of minimum levels of knowledge, skills, and/or abilities.)
5 years of proven experience with diverse sports industry knowledge
General knowledge of water sports
Must have a proven track record in sports sales, fundraising and proposal writing
Excellent project and team management skills
Ability to manage multiple projects and objectives simultaneously
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
Demonstrate ability to make good judgments
Proven understanding of budget and fiscal responsibility
Capable of working in teams and autonomously
Ability to use Microsoft Office proficiently
Capable to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects at one time.
Detail oriented with strong analytical and organizational skills.
Strong interpersonal skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills, insight into group dynamics, and the ability to develop and foster relationships.

Education, Training and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Communications or related field.
6+ years of sports industry experience

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit for extended periods of time. Shall be able to apply 25 lbs. of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Must be able to view computer screen for extended period of time. Must have clear close-up vision.
