Our Director of Perioperative Education will be responsible for the overall leadership, development, evaluation and maintenance of the products and services developed and coordinated by the Department of Nursing Education that will deliver premiere education content and experiences to meet the professional requirements for perioperative nurses. He/she will be responsible for the planning, developing, implementation and evaluation of products and services to ensure consistency with the evidence-based standards and best practices in Perioperative Nursing. In collaboration with other stakeholders he/she will be responsible for developing and managing the budget for the Education Line of Business. He/she is responsible for maintaining professional accreditation with ANCC Provider Unit and Approver Unit, and California Board of Nursing; he/she consistently identifies appropriate types of accreditation for specific educational content.
AORN is based in Denver, CO but you do not have to live in Denver to be considered for this opportunity. Remote candidates are encouraged to apply! We are all currently working remotely due to COVID-19 but we are in the planning stages of our office reopening. This position will require some travel. Remote candidates will need to be flexible around travel to the Denver office to meet with the team and additional travel will be required to support AORN educational events and to attend AORN’s Global Surgical Conference and EXPO.
More about what you’ll get to do as our Director of Perioperative Education:
Responsible and accountable for the Education team workflows including the P101, Periop Mastery, PCNOR, Expo education planning and other educational products, services and events.
Coaches and develops direct reports and works closely with organizational partners for effective communication with all members of the team on projects.
Plans, develops, implements and evaluates products, services and events that provide information and education to meet the needs of perioperative nurses along the continuum of their career.
Represents, promotes, and markets AORN’s educational products, services and events to members, the public and other nursing organizations, associations and corporations.
Serves as AORN’s internal expert on education, learning technology and live education event excellence.
Maintains knowledge of current speakers and speaking engagements in coordinating professional speakers for educational events.
Represents AORN at selected professional association and interdisciplinary teams.
Collaborates with the other stakeholders regarding environmental scanning, hot topics, research, evidence-based practice, etc., to develop and market relevant educational products, services and events, utilizing the framework developed by the Nursing department.
Works with Instructional Designers to plan and implement learning and content strategy to meet customer needs with a key focus on developing digital content and microlearning techniques for a diverse customer demand.
Collaborates with the Director of Ambulatory Services and the Director of Evidence Based Practice for products, services and events.
Collaborates with the Nursing Team with goal setting, team meetings, and quality improvement.

Must Have’s to be our Director of Perioperative Education
Experienced professional perioperative nurse with a Master’s Degree, preferably in Nursing, but will consider a Master’s Degree in a related field, in combination with a BSN degree.
Minimum five years clinical perioperative experience, with a minimum of three years in an education role.
Minimum of eight years’ experience in leading and managing a multidisciplinary team of direct reports.
CNOR is required.
Knowledge of current trends in professional education modalities, such as microlearning techniques, digital learning, and interactive user experience.
Experience is required in developing clinical and theoretical content, as well as knowledge of educational programs, clinical specialty conferences, and online learning.
Knowledge of ANCC requirements for continuing education.
Scrum and agile technique experience in managing projects is preferred.
Knowledge of AORNs Guidelines, healthcare regulatory requirements and accreditation standards.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Intermediate to advanced computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office programs.
Ability to read, analyze and interpret scientific and technical journals, articles, books and professional communications.
Ability to respond to inquiries or requests for consultation from government agencies, other nursing organizations, medical and health institutions and organizations.
Demonstrated ability to foster interdisciplinary collaboration and team building.
Analytical thinking skills and the ability to conceptualize new products and services based on trends and market data.
Strong business process mapping and organization skills
Ability to manage multiple programs, work with volunteers, negotiate complex matters and contribute to the AORN leadership team.
Excellent public speaking, presentation and communication skills.
Proven ability to work successfully with senior management.
Demonstrated leadership and management skills; experience leading a multidisciplinary department and staff.
Politically savvy and able to work successfully to navigate the many demands and requests from members, board, staff, industry and others.
Comprehension of management theories and principles of adult education.
Ability to demonstrate and hold others accountable for organizational values of: diversity, equity, & inclusiveness, innovation, communication, quality and achievement.
