Reporting Relationship: Assistant Head for Academics
Classification Status: Exempt, full time, 10-month position
Overview of Position:
The School Counselor is responsible for the overall counseling program providing emotional and psychological support and guidance for all students.
The School Counselor will work to support the academic, social and behavioral success of high school students.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assess and identify the learning, developmental, and psychological needs of those struggling with social, emotional and behavioral challenges.
Collaborate with educators, parents and the disciplinary team to create supportive and safe learning environments for all students.
Develop and facilitate the counseling curriculum, within the FOS Seminar Series.
Educate faculty, staff, and parents on the relevant topics pertaining to the emotional, social, and psychological needs of students.
Provide direct service to students experiencing social, emotional or psychological difficulties.
Mobilize linkage support, for students to off-campus specialized care.
Collaborate with administrators, Learning Specialists and School Nurse to coordinate student support.
Support the School Leadership
Be available for collateral guidance to parents and guardians.

Essential skills and experience
Licensed Practitioner (LCSW, LMFT, PhD, PsyD)
Experience with Google Suite Microsoft Word & Excel
Excellent communication skills
Strong organizational, and follow-through skills
Duties Associated with the Formation of Self Curriculum
Define a progressive curriculum which balances and attends to the specific needs of each stage of growth.
Expand and integrate grade and developmental stage-specific workshops, speakers, and activities into school curriculum.
Explore the potential of peer leadership programs.
Cultivate timely topics and speakers for parent education evenings
Plan, schedule, and coordinate programs for the following:
Substance abuse prevention education to:
Freshmen – week-long program
Sophomores – follow-up meeting
Juniors – FCD week-long program
Seniors – Transition Week
b)Personal Safety program
Sophomores and Juniors
Seniors – Transition Week
c)Other teen issues, as needed (for example)
Duties Associated with Employee and Parent Training
Provide annual Child Abuse Prevention information at opening faculty meetings.
Facilitate VIRTUS training for incoming employees and parents who interact with
students during their volunteer activities.
Facilitate the Keeping the Promise Alive re-certification training.
Provide other administrators with clinical insight, information, and guidance about student issues as they pertain to administrative decisions.
Participate in the following regular meetings:
a) Student Support Team meetings (weekly)
b) FOS Department Meetings
c) Faculty (monthly)
d) Safety Committee
