Middle School Teacher

St. Mark’s Episcopal School in Houston, Texas is seeking creative, organized, team players to serve in the Middle School for the 2021-2022 school year.  We are looking for dynamic, forward-thinking, and student-centered professional educators who are motivated by problem-solving and leading students at this stage of their development. Of paramount importance is the understanding of the social and emotional development of children aged 10-14, in 5th through 8th grade. 

Applicants with a minimum of three years of teaching experience in middle school experience are preferred, along with an appreciation for an interdisciplinary approach to learning. Prospective colleagues should embrace working with students who possess a range of abilities, talents, and learning styles. Please note background/experience in coaching athletics and other extracurricular activities.

Primary Functions:

• Plan, deliver and evaluate lessons
• Assess student learning
• Provide feedback and instruction to students
• Serve as a Middle School student advisor
• Engage in curricular review and mapping
• Nurture a partnering relationship with students and their families

Required Skills:

• Effective written and oral communication skills
• Patience
• A collaborative and joyful spirit 
• Working knowledge of technology resources in education
• A Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field 
• Classroom experience 

In addition to the above qualities, the following items are preferred and highly valued:

• Experience and comfort with iPad use in a classroom setting
• Curriculum planning
• Advanced degree in education or a related field
• An understanding of and a passion for teaching the middle school-aged child
• Ability and willingness to lead or assist with athletics and/or after school clubs
