![]() APPLICATIONS PROGR 3 (Applications Developer) Department Description Student Housing and Dining Services is a self-supporting auxiliary which provides housing and food service operations to undergraduate and graduate students who live in campus facilities. For more information about Student Housing visit our website at http://www.housing.ucdavis.edu The Computer Services Group performs application development, system administration and desktop and user support; serves and supports a population of over 6000 residents, 500 department staff, 3 residential computing centers; and collaborates with departments in the Division of Student Affairs and Division of Information and Education Technology (IET) on development projects, security, and network administration. The unit integrates Tier 1 and Tier 2 campus (financial, payroll, student, and user registry) and departmental information systems, adheres to Cyber-safety requirements, ensures reliable and secure information exchange, conforms to best practices, and strives to enable efficient and effective business practices in the department. JOB SUMMARY Under general direction of the Assistant Director of the Computer Services Group, design, develop and maintain robust and secure web applications, web services, and integrations critical to the business of Student Housing and Dining Services. Applications and integrations developed and supported in this position include the Online Student Application for Housing, the Housing Contracts/Leasing System, Residential Building and Room Access systems, financial transactions, Facilities Management (AMS), Dining Operational Systems and others. Applications will be developed using C#, ASP.NET, WebForms, MVC, JavaScript, and SQL Server. Development will involve significant integrations with campus, departmental, and 3rd party systems, and will rely on interoperability with Microsoft products (Exchange, Active Directory, Office, etc.). POSITION INFORMATION PHYSICAL DEMANDS Distinguish colors to create customer-pleasing web applications. Work with a computer and keyboard to enter and retrieve data. Use computer equipment for extended periods. Use CRT and LCD screens for extended periods of time. WORK ENVIRONMENT Occasional evening, weekend, holiday, after-hours and on-call work as planned and unplanned needs require. UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014. QUALIFICATIONS Required: Professional experience developing software applications using C#, ASP.NET, or VB.NET. Professional experience in database development using MS SQL Server to write and implement SQL Queries, stored procedures, views, and other SQL Server objects to access database content. Experience with CSS, JavaScript and HTML. Experience applying analytical and critical thinking skills to understand the business environment and to translate those needs to solutions; resolve complex business and technical problems; enhance site functionality and productivity; evaluate and recommend new programming tools and techniques; select the appropriate programming and scripting tools for tasks. Experience coding, testing, certifying, maintaining and documenting all developed programs and scripts. Experience utilizing communication skills to create documentation, communicate ideas, and perform knowledge transfers. Experience with best practices and web security principles. Preferred: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field. Experience with the MVC design pattern and developing web applications using Microsoft's ASP.NET MVC framework. Experience writing web-services and web-clients that consume those services. Skill to use web-programming protocols and languages including HTML, CSS, AJAX, SOAP, and others. Experience with client side JavaScript frameworks such as Knockout and AngularJS. Interpersonal, customer service, verbal and written communications skills to effectively interact with the campus community, internal customers, and team members to develop working relationships, secure and/or provide information, resolve problems and develop solutions to accomplish organizational goals. Time management, organization, and ability to see assigned tasks through to completion. Skill to manage multiple projects concurrently, work effectively and manage several projects in various stages of completion. Skill to design, develop, and manage large complex web sites. Experience creating web-based reports using Crystal Reports XI and SQL Reporting Services. Experience evaluating, testing and using new software with little or no outside training. Knowledge of server-side management issues including security of transactions. Knowledge of multi-user programming techniques and network configurations, terms and protocols. Skill to translate complicated technical language into lay person terms. Experience in a structured programming environment writing organized, consistent and easily understood code. Understanding of network and workstation operating systems, hardware and software to troubleshoot and assist users in a networked environment.
