![]() BUS TCHL SUPP ANL 2 TX (IT Support Specialist) Department Description Student Housing is a self-supporting auxiliary which provides housing and food service operations to undergraduate and graduate students who live in campus facilities. For more information about Student Housing visit our website at http://www.housing.ucdavis.edu The Computer Services Group performs application development, system administration and desktop and user support; serves and supports a population of over 5000 residents, 500 department staff, 200+ knowledge workers and 3 residential computing centers; and collaborates with departments in the Division of Student Affairs and Division of Information and Education Technology (IET) on development projects, security, and network administration. The unit integrates Tier 1 and Tier 2 campus (financial, payroll, student, and user registry) and departmental information systems, adheres to Cyber-safety requirements, ensures reliable and secure information exchange, conforms to best practices, and strives to enable efficient and effective business practices in the department. JOB SUMMARY Under the supervision of the Assistant Director Computer Services Group, provide computer workstation and IT Services support (500+ Windows workstation and Wyse Winterm client systems; all peripherals; local and remote users; Tier 1 and Tier 2 help desk support; and computer workstation lifecycle management). Responsibilities also include creating and managing user accounts, permissions, and resources; research and analysis for new products, inventory management; and customer service including public speaking and training. POSITION INFORMATION PHYSICAL DEMANDS Ascend/descend stairs and move in and around mechanical rooms, roofs, attics, construction sites and buildings under construction. This position may involve working on computer equipment weighing up to 25 lbs. in awkward positions and moving and lifting furniture weighing up to 50 lbs. in addition to pushing a cart loaded with computer equipment between buildings or floors. Work at a computer terminal for extended periods with frequent interruption. Position may, at times, require employee to work with or be in areas where hazardous materials and/or infectious diseases are present. Travel frequently between the different computer center locations to monitor and manage operations. WORK ENVIRONMENT May be required to work a non-standard work schedule that may include nights, weekends or alternate schedules with occasional overtime to meet operational needs. Carry University provided radios, cell phones, pagers or other telecommunications equipment which would facilitate communication between the department and employee during non-work hours. Work with frequent interruptions and distractions, traffic and noise from telephone, visitors, etc. Vacation usage may be limited during peak workload periods. QUALIFICATIONS Required: Experience providing Tier 1 and Tier 2 help desk support in a MS Windows desktop and MS Office suite environment. Including the full MS office suite of applications, Outlook, Office365, and Active Directory. Experience in use and knowledge of networking protocols such as DHCP, DNS, TCP/IP, SNMP, and switched Ethernet, and working with networking hardware including cabling, hubs, switches, routers, firewalls. Experience and technical skills in the installation, configuration, troubleshooting and repair of computer hardware and software in an network environment including; RAM, video, network, sound cards, hard drives, DVD, wireless devices, printers, etc. Experience utilizing analysis, troubleshooting, and problem solving skills applied supporting end user client systems including desktop, laptop and mobile computing devices as well as software applications. Experience demonstrating interpersonal and communication skills in order to work with both technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization. Technical writing experience documenting procedures and preparing materials for training and publication. Experience with Cyber Safety and Information security practices and procedures and the ability to advise users in this area. Skill to maintain and preserve the confidentiality of records. Preferred: Knowledge of University and/or Student Housing operations and the software applications used to support this business operation. Experience developing and administering formal technical training to users at a variety of levels. Ability to elicit and communicate technical and non-technical information in a clear and concise manner. Advanced skill at creating technical documentation for complex processes and applications. Experience with command file programming, environment variables and how they are used in configurations. Skills to analyze, interpret, diagnose and find innovative technical solutions to resolve technical problems. Skills to be creative and apply innovative concepts to problem resolution. Experience performing server and file share system backups and file recovery. Skills to setup and configure Audio Visual equipment including projection systems, audio amplifiers/mixers, microphones, and speaker systems. Skill to instruct others in the setup and configuration of AV equipment. Experience configuring and maintaining Active Directory resources and permissions. Skill to manage mailboxes, resources, distribution lists, and user groups. Organizational and time management skills to coordinate and complete multiple simultaneous tasks in a dynamic work environment with frequent interruptions and changes to work priority, scope, and schedules.
